1. Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner
The thing about being mixed is that 9 out of 10 times, your hair is a crazy mixture of your parents’ hair–and neither parent knows how in the hell to deal with it. Most of us mixed kids grew up with a hair brush being equivalent to a torture instrument. Enter Mixed Chicks. I wish I could go back in time and give my mother a bottle of this stuff for when my sister and I were little. You put a dollop in your hair and the tangles just resign themselves and turn into curls. It’s insane–in the best way possible.
2. China Rain Soap by Body Time
Growing up in Berkeley, my mom used to take Faith and I to Body Time–our local bath and body shop (actually, it was called Body Shop back in the day before the English chain came to US). This was one of our very favorite places to go. Thy are dozens of bottles of essential oils and we would spend what felt like hours smelling each one. China Rain was always a favorite. I have been wearing this scent literally since I was eleven years old and I’m still not sick of it. In fact, I’m kinda more in love with it then ever.
3. Funny Face Lipstick by Nars
Best. Color. Ever. Night or day– and the perfect thing to slap on if you’re feeling a little rough around the edges to brighten up the face.
4. Lavilin Deodorant Cream
I was so happy to be turned on to Lavilin to my makeup artist BFF Sole. I am one of those girls that sweats(Sorry TMI). But, I’ve always hated using antiperspirant since I have been cautioned for years that they contain cancer-causing agents. Enter Lavilin. This deodorant has 72 hour long protection. Seriously. It lasts for days. It’s crazy. It doesn’t really small like anything–but it prevents you from smelling. I swear by this stuff. It’s magical. It’s also hypo-allergenic, and aluminum and paraben free. I think it’s made from magical fairy dust.
5. Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Oil
Joise is a friend of mine (and a sponsor of the blog, yay!) but even if neither of those things were the case, I would still freak out over her organic argan oil. I use it to prevent stretch marks now that I’m pregnant–but even before I got pregnant it was the only thing that I used as moisturizer for my sensitive skin. I even use it in my hair and as chap stick. It’s the one cosmetic-like thing that I keep in my purse besides lipstick.
6. Gaiety Blush by Nars
Love this blush. It’s the only makeup that I wear every day.
7. China Rain Perfume Oil by Body Time
Same deal as the soap!
8. Organic Coconut Oil
This stuff is amazing. You can eat it, wear it, and even get sexy with it Try it. You’ll like it.
9. Chinchilly Nail Polish by Essie
My favorite color of the moment–and getting my nails done in the hue for the wedding!
10. 100% Viscose scrub mitts and towels
I’ve been going to Korean spas for years and the Korean women who visit regularly all use these scrub mitts. They have the most amazing looking skin. So I got hip and bought my first one about 15 years ago. For me, it is the best way to exfoliate, and feels so amazing to scrub yourself down with.
