I love a good head wrap, and inevitably when I wear my hair wrapped people ask me how I do it–so here are two kinds of wraps that I like to rock, and some guides on how to make them. Now my hair is long, thick and curly–if your hair is the same–this guide she be a no-brainer. (In order for this to work, your hair has to be at least shoulder length and if your hair isn’t thick or is straight, you will need bobby pins, and maybe some hairspray to keep the wrap in place.)
Use a large piece of fabric (I use sarongs) about 4 ft x 4ft. Stripes always make an impact because how how cool they look when they get swirled and twirled.
1. The first steps on both styles is to place the center of the sarong at the nape of the neck, flip your hair and the sarong over your hair, like you’re going to wrap in in a towel after showering.
2. For this style, you just keep in twisting and wrapping the sarong around your head. When you reach the last corner of the sarong, you tuck it under the large roll and pull tight.
2. For this style, after you grab all your hair in the sarong (step 1) you just keep in twisting and wrapping the sarong around itself until you reach the end of the sarong and then tuck it under. And that’s it! It literally takes thirty seconds, and whenever I wrap my hair I kinda feel like a princess. Would you wear a wrap?

I have always loved the look and wanted to rock it but I have straight, kind of thin hair and I loose steam when it comes to having to bobby pin and such and still worry about it slipping.

I love the second one!!! So regal looking.

@Mattos – I hear ya, although I can’t say I relate. Perhaps using a really this (like chiffon) scarf would work best?
@Tonia — Thanks lady!

I used to wrap my hair all the time, but now 1) I cut my hair off (had big curls like you…love the low maintenance but it’s a little sad), and 2) I’m a teacher now so a big top-heavy wrap does not cater to the classroom runaround. BUT, all that to say, have you ever tried wrapping with West African wax-print fabrics? My dad is Ghanaian and that’s what my aunties and grandma use to wrap their heads, so that’s what I’ve always done. For special occasions you have your dress or suit or whatever made up and keep the leftover fabric for your wrap. It has a lovely, stiffish texture that lets you kind of shape and stick it into big, almost flower-like crowns. Maybe sometime I’ll post a how-to on my very directionless blog :) Anyway, sorry for the page-long post but thought I’d share! Thanks for your beautiful blog!
Love,
Erin

I love the headwrap look! I am going through chemotherapy for breast cancer currently, so I have been playing with head wraps for a few months! I had thick, big hair before so I use several large square or rectangular scarves to achieve bulk. Paired with dangly earrings, and bit of bronze on the cheeks, I could pass for a princess instead of a cancer patient? Much love! I love your site.

I’m sure you *are* a princess. Thanks so much for stopping by! <3

Though chemotherapy is an effective way to treat many types of cancer, chemotherapy treatment also carries a risk of side effects. Some chemotherapy side effects are mild and treatable, while others can cause serious complications. ‘*”.
