Nørrebro is an area of Copenhagen known to be the ‘multi-ethnic’ area of the city. (Sorry I hate the word ethnic but it’s the easiest way to communicate what I mean in this case). The area has fun little grocery stores, boutiques, quite a few antique and second-hand shops and is very vibrant and colorful. These were a few things that caught my eye from the afternoon spent walking around there. The ceramics (besides the obvious vintage plates above) including the shelves full of glaze-testing (AMAZING, right?!) Are from a ceramics shop located in Blagards Plads (12). I fell in love with those basket-like ceramic bowls that I wrongly assumed were African-inspired (much to the chagrin of the artist, who informed me that they were inspired by ancient Danish works.)
The crazy shot of the pepper grinders is from this underground shop on Ravnsborggade. I’m pretty sure the shop owner lived in this shop, which made it extra weird and cool. Skating the line between hoarder and collector, this shop was stacked from floor to ceiling with stuff, some of which was total crap and some of which was incredible vintage-modern Danish design. Drool.
There are so many great vintage ceramic pieces here–I just love all of the vintage Danish illustrations–the floral motifs and round-faced people. One lovely thing about being here for such an extended period of time is that I get to see so much stuff, and then, calmly decide which pieces I want to bring home with me. Normally while traveling one is forced to make impulse decisions on what to buy because you only get to go places one time in order to see and take in as much as possible. I will be coming back to Nørrebro for sure.
