So, I know you guys have all seen them, those lovely exposed closets in the Ikea catalogue- the ones where the entire wardrobe is black white and gray, and the hangers are perfectly spaced at an inch and a half from each other. My closet will never be one of those. I love color too much- and my closets never have an inch more of space then I absolutely need – and you know what- I have embraced this and made it work for me!
I used 3 tactics, all of which I learned in the many years of owning and running the most colorful boutique in Italy!
1. Try to arrange your cloths by color, go from light to dark or visa-versa, you’d be surprised how much visual appeal it adds to a chaotic wardrobe.
2. Divide your wardrobe by seasons and put half of it away in storage. (I know it’s hard to believe, and perhaps even a little silly cause I live in LA where we basically don’t have seasons- but this is only half of my wardrobe- the summer half!) This is also a great tactic so you don’t get tired of your clothes- opening up those boxes at the beginning of the new season is like going on a shopping spree and not spending a penny!
3. Invest is some decent hangers- and most importantly make sure they are all the same- even if they are all wire hangers from the laundry mat- this adds uniformity. I have been collecting these funky vintage Swiss hangers for the past 10 years!
