I found this old and tattered armchair at a dumpster while driving to the beach with my dad and we tossed it into the back of my station wagen.
Once I got it home, I cleaned the chair and removed the broken seat and back. I then took a couple of different ethnic textile pieces from my travels and I sewed the fabrics together by hand.
Next, I attached the fabric to the wood with upholstery tacks. As a final touch, I decorated the chair with a couple of vintage pillows.
I really love giving new lives to old things. Which reminds me, the Compai Flickr group called Salvaged From the Street hopes to collect images like this, of items that were given a new lease on life. Why don’t you join us there so we can see what you’re making and inspire each other?
