I designed this modular menorah a couple of years back for Heeb Magazine.
It was a fun and easy project- so I thought I’d share it with you here.
What You’ll need:
9 candlelight balls. These are from CB2 ($3.95 each)
11 screw hooks
30’ of invisible hanging wire
Acrylic paint
Spraypaint
A wooden plank, at least 50 inches long, and at least one inch thick.
1. Screw nine of the eleven screw hooks into the wood, beginning at one end, finishing at the other end. Be sure that they are evenly spaced apart.
2. Screw two screws onto the opposite side of the plank, on both ends. These hooks will be used to hang the whole thing up, once it’s complete.
3. Paint the wood and screw hooks a paint color of your choosing (mine is gold), and set to dry.
4. Spray paint one of the glass balls for the service candle (Shamash)
4. Begin to tie the invisible hanging wire to the glass balls, following the above illustrated guidelines, so that the wire stays firmly attached to the glass balls. Make the wire as long or short as you like, but make them all the same length, besides the silver ball (for the Shamash) which gets a shorter string. Also remember that each knot takes up a few inches of wire.
5. Once the plank and screws are dry, tie all of the glass balls to the hooks using the same wire-tying technique. Leave the painted ball for the end of the Menorah and tie it on higher than the other balls.
6. Carefully hang the Hannukiah from the ceiling, Light some tea lights, and enjoy a latkah or two by your new Modular Menorah.
Happy Hannukah to those of you who celebrate!
Brilliant! Well done. :)
