I have certain pieces in my wardrobe that I come back to again and again–because I like to be comfy AND look cute–I know–what a revelation. Now that I’m 5 months pregnant, most of these pieces are still my favorites and most still fit because of the ever-handy elastic waists. For each of the items shown above, I have 2 or three in varied colors and prints, and if you see me out and about here in LA year round you are likely to see me in one of the following items:
1.) Harem Pants.
I started rocking Harem pants when I lived in Italy. European women seem to have adopted the trend more quickly than ladies in the US–but now that I feel comfortable in the harem pant style, it’s truly one of my favorite silhouettes–they look fashion forward, they’re unbelievably comfy and they can easily be dressed up or down.
2.) Bubble Pants.
Like the harem pant, bubble pants fit my boho steeze. They are also crazy comfy and make me feel all genie chic. I have a pair of vintage floral ones that look really similar to these Betsy Johnson ones, and I wear them ALL THE TIME. I love how they are less frumpy looking than long skirts can sometimes look.
3.) Pea Coats.
I love Pea Coats. They usually have wide arms, so they still fit even when one must layer thick sweaters underneath–the double breastedness of pea coats I find to be very flattering over my large tatas. And often times, a little longer in length– I think they look so cute worn with shorter skirts or dresses over stockings, like in this ASOS version.
4.) Jump Suits.
Jump suits are my favorite thing because they are no fuss. It’s just one thing to throw on and you are all ready to go. I especially love jump suits with elastic waists–they tend to flatter my hourglass shape. Also, they make me feel like a ’70’s disco queen–which is rad.
5.) Long Tanks.
I’m a tank top girl. Since I live in LA, I guess it’s a good thing I like tank tops because it gets so hot. I do find, however, that it’s not so easy to find tank tops that are longer and that cover my belly (I had this problem even before I got pregnant, but now–most tanks are like crop tops on me) Believe it or not, I buy most of my tanks and t’s at Target. They have a huge size and color range–and carry long tanks, which i truly appreciate–since I wear them daily.
6.) Wrap Around Skirt.
Ahh the wrap around skirt–the gift that keeps on giving–even if you gain–or lose–a couple. I have about 5 of these vintage wrap arounds and I wear them year round with leggings underneath in the winter, and little boy-shorts underneath in the summer (‘cuz sometimes when the wind blows, you flash passersby). Beautifully boho, normally so soft and in great patterns, these ’70’s yum yums get me every time. They are also, almost always very reasonably priced at vintage stores.
7.) Kaftan.
Oh dear kaftan, where would I be without you? Belted or loose, crocheted or cotton, I love how you loosely drape over my body and make me look like a major hippie–in the best way possible. You are hands down the most comfy thing to wear, and I will rock you with heels and a chunky necklace to a gallery opening and I will rock you to the beach. You are my soul sister, dear kaftan, and I play favorites with you.

Great tips! I don’t qualify as zaftig but I am definitely taking notes. It’s a blessing to have clothes that can you can enjoy pre-pregnancy AND while you’re expecting. Thanks, Justina!

Hey, I broke out the pants from a salwar kameez I inherited for the first time…I was sure I could only wear them around the house. But, I’m wearing them out now and they are sooo comfy! Thanks for the nudge to branch out!

I second the long tanks. And I’m not tall. But so much better on the curves than a short on sitting on your hips. That crochet caftan is stellar!

So I have a confession– I’m totally terrified of harem pants. I’ve never tried even tried them. I think that needs to change..

OK so next time you come over you’re getting a pair of harems…

I am the definition of zaftig! I truly love my body, but too often it seems trends are mostly on point for the skinny minnies. Thanks for a curvy girls shout out!
