Hello! I’m Victoria of Paper & Type, & it’s nice to meet you, dear readers.
As substitute blogger for today, I wished to highlight the little notion that your home – whether it be a rented apartment or your own abode – should be a natural extension of you. If you’ve been following along with Justina’s blog, or perhaps you’re all caught up with Anthology, you’ll see that Justina lives this notion through & through. From the bold paint palette to the patterned rugs & throws, from the worldly tchotchkes to the upcycled housewares & pockets of plants – every bit of the jungalow is an embodiment of this lovely lady! Getting to housesit for her last fall was more or less like hanging out with Justina herself.
When friends move & they ask for advice about how to furnish their new home, I do have some go-to resources to recommend for furniture & decor, but the main principle I insist upon is patience. I feel it’s important that you hold out for the right pieces, ones that you’ll be happy living with & seeing & using & sharing everyday. It’s also exciting to shop outside of the box & second-hand if you are willing – you’ll often end up with the best surprises & deals.
As for me, I like a bit of simple whimsicality & good design in my space. The items pictured above are pieces I had picked up a couple years ago when I lived mid-city, & they’ve moved along with me to my minty-blue walled room here on the east side. Clockwise from the top:
1. Kitchen timer wall clock / $19.99 / new / eBay
2. GE oscillating electric fan / $22.50 / vintage / eBay
3. Lamp base / free / vintage / Melrose Trading Post
& with the money saved from the aforementioned steals, one can splurge on a chart from Present & Correct:
Happy hunting for your home! Many thanks to Justina for having me here.

I totally agree on the patience principle. We need to slow it down and let our spaces evolve into themselves. Great post!

Absolutely agree, and I do think that patience is the clue here – quite often we are challenged to fill up our apartments once moved in, but then we end up with highstreet, mass production pieces that neither represent our individuality nor feel comfy and homey. Great post!
