Last week I showed you a couple of family portraits from around our ‘hood on Crown Hill and today we’re taking it inside the Jungalow. Jen Lauren Grant has managed to capture the heart of our growing family, and our colorful, silly lifestyle.
I am into the third trimester now, and although I do get tired and I’ve had a few minor health issues along the way causing me to be on mild bed-rest, Boomba is already such a good baby and she makes mama laugh with her little kicks and hiccups.
As the belly get’s bigger and bigger and we get to know our little-one more, everything starts to feel more real than surreal. At our ultrasound last week, we got to see her little face in 3D and we also learned that she is currently both “breached” and “posterior” (position-wise) (yikes) so mama really hopes Boomba does some serious twisting and turning soon! To be honest, the prospect of birth still completely terrifies me but I’m hoping the birthing classes that we start next week will tame my fears. Knowledge is power, yes?
Meanwhile I’m waddling around prepping for her arrival. Daddy and I had the nursery painted yesterday. Looking forward to showing you the progress! And while I’ve made a few purchases for myself over the last few months (like new bras from Jeanette Bras–since I’ve gone up a whopping 3 cup sizes) I made my very first purchase for Boomba yesterday of little tiny hangers for her little tiny clothes.
We have been so lucky to get hand-me-downs from lotsa ‘tantes’ (that’s Yiddish for aunties) and homies and have everything in big piles ready to sort and organize–I LOVE this part.
This is truly one of the most special and spectacular times in our lives, we are truly blessed.

Many thanks go out to Jen Lauren Grant for the sweetest photography and to Jeanette Bras!

Gorgeous! I’m usually not a fan of maternity shots because there is some major cheese floating around out there. The last one: LOVE!!! I’ll be full-term on Sunday and have been thinking of ways to document it: picture, belly cast, maybe both. Sometimes the baby turns at the very last minute. Don’t stress! Mine has turned but their position is funky. My midwife suggested I do Cat/Dog yoga poses twice a day for 5 minutes. Glad you’re enjoying pregnancy.

I hear you about the cheese! glad you like mine :) and a HUGE congrats on your Boomba! good luck with the birth–I hope everything is smooth and easy! Thanks for the cat/dog suggestion–I’m gonna start doing more of that!

You look AMAZING! These images are so gorgeous. All I can say for the birthing process is… take it as it comes. If you can accept anything that anything can happen, you’ll be surprised at how much calmer you’ll feel. Your little Boomba is so lucky already!

Love these photos so much! I want to take some photos durning my next pregnancy–I have even bought no less than 3 sheer caftans with that in mind! HA! I agre, maternity photos can get pretty cheesy…
My husband and I took bradley classes at Bini Birth in North Hollywood (I think they moved to Sherman Oaks though), and they were great! Even if our homebirth ended with a transfer to a hospital (tilted head–no surgery though!), I know our classes helped me through my long labor and 5 hours of pushing at home, and even while I pushed for 20 minutes in the hospital! Birth can feel scary, but its totally normal and natural! Good luck to you!
Justina Blakeney says
Thanks Jesyka–it helps to hear everyone’s experiences! and you should for sure do maternity photos! Jen is awesome for next time you’re pregnant!!

These are so real, so natural, and so beautiful!
The great thing about photography is that it can capture the atmosphere and feelings of the moment so you never forget them!
So excited for your soon to be arrival. Life will be an adventure from here! And a grand one at that:)

Those are BEAUTIFUL photos!
I had one baby who hung out in a posterior position and one who wanted to be breach. For posterior, my midwife had me use a birthing ball. The memory’s a little hazy (!), but I think I spent a long time gently rolling back and forth on it using my belly. The yoga might do the trick, too. With the breach baby, a different midwife told me that a) babies do like music and b) they don’t like cold heads. For a couple weeks prior to going into labor I alternated between playing music and putting the headphones down low on my belly (to draw the baby down) and “chasing” the baby’s head w/ a bag of frozen veggies. Honest to god, I’d put the bag on my belly near his head, and he’d move away from it. I’d move the bag, and he’d keep moving away. I know it sounds meshuggeh, but after two weeks, that boy was head down! ~Cathy
Justina Blakeney says
Cathy–this made me smile. I will try your meshuggeh tricks for sure! Thank you!
