Adding art to your walls can be as simple as going into your closet and pulling out your five favorite hats and hanging them up in a cluster. No need to go out and buy five paintings. Rip out colorful pages from vintage magazines and artfully collage them to your wall to make a statement–I guarantee it’s cheaper than wallpaper. Clustering items based on a theme creates a collected wall: a gallery that sparks visual interest and contributes color and texture to a once bare wall.
Items like baskets {I always find good inexpensive ones at Ross (shhhhh…)}, cutting boards (easy to come by at thrift shops or online for that matter…), or old windows (I found mine discarded on the curb) are perfect ways to add galleries to your homes without spending heaps of cash. And if one of your rooms is lacking in the natural light department, adding a mirror wall will help, not only add visual interest, but also bounces light around the room.
Frame black and white photocopies of original art (or maybe your kids have some pretty colorful paintings?) Thrift all different frames or go to Ikea–either way, by keeping the art in one pre-determined color scheme, your gallery will be striking and graphic.
Don’t like the colors of the chopping blocks or the baskets? Paint them, then hang them.
What do you think? Do you have items lying around your home that are Collected Walls waiting to happen?

At least a few times a week I think, “There are not enough walls in my house…” So many ideas to try! I just thought that today, looking in the Selena & Lily catalog. They stenciled a large letter on the wall and then hung an empty frame around it – so simple, so cool, so many possibilities!
That wall with the colorful baskets is one of my faves.
Thanks for the link credit!

oh yes– I love that idea! that gives me the idea to paint colored squares on the walls and to frame them with ornate vintage frames that have no glass–could be Neat-o!

Great ideas! I’ve been trying to make up my mind on what to put on my walls almost 3 years now and still can’t decide!

just pick something! If you get tired of it–swap it out. I’m changing the jungalow around all of the time.

This is exactly how I hang the art in my bedroom. Anything 11X14 goes on The Wall. It started with just photos but has changed to include other bits of art too. It makes me so happy to have such a large, pretty grouping. I’ve gotten my mom to do it, and we’ve collected various images of animals at thrift stores and craft stores and have an animal wall in the living room.
