Jason and I are so lucky to be able to work from home so that we can stay home with our little Boomba and not stress about leaving her when she is so tiny. That having been said, it’s easy to get stir crazy. As a designer and blogger, I really miss my weekly inspiration trips, my time to venture out somewhere in my beloved L.A., be it a shop, museum, nature–whatever–and check out what’s beyond the screen.
That’s why, when we were invited to come to Palm Desert by my in-laws last week, I jumped at the chance. A little help from grandma, some pool time, and an opportunity to get out and explore a bit was just what the doctor ordered.
We visited both the Ace and the Parker–two famous hotels designed by some designers that I very much admire: Commune Design and Jonathan Adler.
And we also brought Ida to her very first art museum.
Besides the fabulous design brought to the desert, I am also always inspired by the design elements natural to the desert. You know how I feel about cacti and succulents. The love runs deep.
Another refreshing thing about the desert is how the colors pop against the open sky. The Saguaro Hotel’s rainbow brights always make me smile.
When I’m out and about–I never know when inspiration will strike. I never know what is it that will capture my imagination and give me a great new idea. It could be a plant, or a hotel, or a piece of art, or even a cloud…but it takes being ‘out there’ for me.
Where do you go when in search of inspiration? Pinterest is wonderful–but do you also feel it’s necessary to get out and go to refresh your creativity in the world?

Yes! I stopped in the middle of a concourse in the Atlanta airport at rush hour to take a picture of the mosaic tiled floor…fender bender of people proceeded my stop.

I am the same way I never know what I am going to find that will inspire me. Little Ida is looking like she knows what she’s looking at too. AND I’m lusting over those doors! They’re gorgeous.
