We’ve been living at the 2nd St. Jungalow for almost two years now. Even though it’s a rental, I’m not shy about making changes to it that I think will improve our quality of life in the space. That has got me thinking about the kitchen floors. I’ve disliked them ever since we moved in. They’re a drab grey linoleum. My first though is an obvious one–add rugs– these are a few that I’ve been eyeing:
Azilal Carpet
Boucherouite
Talsint Hanbel
Runner
Zig Zaggy Kilim
One rug under the kitchen table, and a runner all along the counter would look cool, I think. I probably wouldn’t have thought to put a rug under my kitchen table, but this picture by Amber Interiors has always been an inspiration:
What do you think? Is it weird to have rugs in the kitchen?
Another thought I has was to put in new linoleum flooring. It’s actually not as expensive or as difficult at it seems. I’ve also thought about painting the existing floors–like these:

We’ll see what I end up with–but in the mean time I can’t wait to cover up that drab grey!
Also…The winner of the CarlinaK poncho was just announced here.
Have a look at Will’s all new Bright Bazaar. He’s remodeled his online home and it’s it’s fabulously fun.
Head over to the new issue of NEET magazine to check out what some dream gifts for my loved ones would be. Heading off to Seattle tonight! It will be Ida’s first plane ride. wish us luck!

I am so happy to be catching up on your blog after some time away being a new momma. Your beautiful Ida is growing so fast! I love rugs in every room, even the kitchen and before you know it your little one will be crawling around while you cook. Be sure to pick some that will be soft on sweet knees, which sadly excludes some of the gorgeous natural woven rugs that tend to be scratchy. Can’t wait to see what you decide to do!

I just love your kitchen rugs and design, they have some different attraction as the other rugs don’t have. The chairs rugs looks so soft and will give comfort to our backbone. Thanks for sharing these wonderful ideas with us.

If you have an eat-in kitchen and/or cook regularly you will want something that can take spills. Especially with a toddler–prepare to be amazed by how much food and junk ends up on your floor. We have an indoor/outdoor rug in our dining room. It’s still pretty thrashed (I have two preschoolers), but at least it’s somewhat easy to clean and can also be swept easily. Some of those more textured rugs, while beautiful, would end up caked with gunk in no time, at least in my house.

I painted a linoleum floor and I just want to say : make sure you do all the right prep and sealing. Mine ended up scraping off over time. I might’ve done something wrong, though, because I find painting and all its preparations to be really tedious. That’s just my two cents!
Personally, I love the idea of a painted floor, because rugs in kitchens always seem to get real dirty real fast, you know? I can’t wait to see what you do!!!
