These days with our foundation powders and creams, our instagram filters and our photoshopping we’ve become used to seeing ourselves, and others in veiled and manipulated ways. I certainly have my ‘angles’ –ways I like to tilt my head and face for the camera. My sister, brother and I snapped a picture all together on the beach in Mexico last week and as we all looked at the pic on my iphone my brother complimented me (kind of jokingly) on my ‘shadow work,’ meaning I had positioned myself so that the shadows covered the areas of my body that I perceive as flawed in a perfect way. With makeup, ‘shadow work’ and insta-filters being today’s MO it was very cool (and kind of intense) to pose for photographer Mousa Kraish who photographed Ida and I, without makeup or any kind of filters, as straight on as possible in natural light. I am so naked in this portrait. It’s kind of terrifying, but also entirely refreshing.

These are so lovely and inspiring. In this age of making up and touching up I think the way we consider our skin is that it should be a blank slate. These photos show beautifully that even a baby’s skin is uniquely her own, and it’s all beautiful.

Exquisite, confident, and inspiring. Thanks for sharing this. Daily trying to be comfortable in my own skin. Seeing your bravery in “nakedness” gives me strength to be proud of my own beauty whether inside or out. We are all so uniquely created; it’s sad that people spend more time criticizing that uniqueness rather than celebrating what makes each person special in their own right.
