Today, I want to take a moment to look back at some of my favorite DIY projects. It’s nice to resurrect old ideas, and often times looking at my old ideas gives me new ideas. My DIY projects are concept based–meaning, I may not always give detailed instructions of how I made x, y or z–because I know you are savvy and creative enough to take inspiration and run with it, putting your own spin on things. I love to make stuff, and even though I’m not the most precise maker in the world, I really enjoy the process of taking an idea and bringing it into reality–and so much of the time the process ofmaking things gives me new ideas and shifts the initial concept so that I end up making something entirely different from what I had in mind to begin with. Does that happen to you too? That’s why I think it’s important to make stuff-even if you don’t consider yourself to be ‘crafty,’ the act of putting paint to wall, needle to fabric, nails to wood actually gives birth to new ideas that may not have ever come if it hadn’t been for the process.
Check out my favorite DIY projects–most of which look totally different from the original concept and were born really out of the creative energy that making can bring. What project have you started that ended up completely different from the initial idea in a good way?
