The little barter I have with Amanda continues–I get a (FANTASTIC!) personal trainer, she gets (FANTASTIC) decorator. Hehe. After six short weeks I fit into my favorite jeans EVER which means I’m down a full jean size (truth be told I bought the largest size they had last year and they didn’t fit me when I bought them, and now they do :D) and Amanda’s bedroom is looking pretty dang hot too.
I spent quite a while trying to figure out the headboard situation. Affordable headboards are so hard to find! I was digging this one, but YIKES it cost over $1450. You wouldn’t believe how my face lit up when I saw this linen screen from World Market and looked at the dimensions and saw that it’s almost the exact size as a standard queen-sized bed. Done and done.
The natural linen of the headboard works perfectly with the natural linen of the drum shade from the wooden mid-century-style table lamp (which is one of my #EuroEdge picks). And the brass accents on the screen work with the brass side table and the brass accents on the lamp.
It’s all amplified by the suzani bedspread from Uzbekistan that I found on Ebay and the cloth lantern, that I’m pretty sure is from India, but that I found at the Rose Bowl flea market–because every boho-modern room needs a little pattern love, yes? Soon we start on the living room…and I’ve got my eye on a New Years dress that WILL fit me by Dec. 31 ;)

1. You look amazing–keep up the good work! :)
2. How fabulous is that bedroom— and yes, that lantern is from India–the embroidery on it is called “pipli work”, from Orissa.
Can’t wait to see the next installment in the series!
Justina Blakeney says
Oh thank you Gagan for confirming my guess! I love knowing the name of the embroidery, too! Thank you!!

You and the room are gorgeous. Barter is definitely better, right? I’m obsessed with suzanis and handiras right now. I’d also love to have a pair of jeans like that!

Congratulations Justina, as a mom to two young children I am face-to-face with the same issue of how to feel like myself and have enough energy to be the kind of mom I want to be. I would imagine that even beyond the amazing results you are creating the discipline and commitment you made to yourself is also having you stand up a little taller with pride in yourself. Thank you for your very authentic inspiration, you inspire us with gorgeous interiors for both homes and your own spirit. Much gratitude…

Love those pants!! They are very cool. Well done for going down a jeans size, it’s not easy to lose weight… I’ve been trying all year but despite the running and al that the scale is not budging.
