So you may remember my post from last month about a barter I’m doing with Amanda from Raw Fitness L.A. Well a month has past and there has been some serious progress on both fronts–both her apartment design, and my health/fitness regimen!
I have been working out three days a week with Amanda, and it’s hard. Very hard. I get up at the ass-crack of dawn when it’s still dark and everyone in my household (even the cat) are all still asleep and do excruciating exercises like “plank-ups,” “lunge-jumps” and all kinds of other two-word odd forms of torture. Amanda pushes me to the perfect point–to make me hate her only a tiny bit, and to make sure I see results and am a bit sore–but not SO sore that I don’t wanna come back two days later. She also is a great nutrition coach and my eating habits have changed pretty drastically. I don’t miss dairy as much as I thought I would–there are so many great alternatives to milk these days. I asked what kind of milks they had for my latte at a cafe yesterday and the barista nonchalantly rattled off Soy, Almond, Hemp, Coconut, Rice…It’s pretty amazing.
I have lost eight pounds so far—but even more than the weight-loss, I just feel SO MUCH BETTER. My clothes hang on me in a way I like so much more, I feel a bit more toned and less flabby, my energy-level is up, even my posture has changed, and best of all, the healthier I get–the more motivated I become to get even more healthy–which is what I really needed because I have had SO little motivation lately. As for Amanda’s apartment–we started on the bedroom and her space is coming alive!!
The headboard, side-tables and bed-side lamps are all on their way next week–and I’m excited to see what this room looks like all Jungalow-ed out!
The Teal Mosaic rug, the rattan rug, the blue velvet pillows and drum table are all from World Market. The ikat pillow and suzani bedspread are from Ebay, the hanging textile lantern piece, and the brass swans are from the Rose Bowl Flea. The kokedama is from Individual Medley. The navy linen chair is from Euro Style Lighting–and with that, I wish you all a very happy, colorful and healthy weekend!

You look great! And you lost 8 pounds in 4 weeks? How is that possible? Good job! Are you cutting on diary and carbs?
Justina Blakeney says
Thanks Ana! I feel really, really good. I’ve cut out dairy and gluten. I cheat sometimes, but it’s such a vast improvement from what my diet was like before–plus the exercise is really helping, too.

Congratulations Justina! As a mom of two young children and someone who owns my own business I know how important it is to have the energy level to really meet life with full gusto. It is such a gift that you are giving yourself and through you being “fed” more fully in your health and energy what a gift you are giving to your family. You always look beautiful regardless of your weight, but now you look radiant as well as it is clear you feel great!

There are people who claim that only the beauty of the inner world and the human soul are important. Others pay attention only to appearance. In my opinion, both are imbalances that only hinder us in communication. The truth, as always, is in the middle. It is important to deal with both external and internal, to take care of your soul and your body. Thanks for sharing!
