It is rare that I come across an artist that I feel captures the Zeitgeist like Raffi Kalenderian. I bought his book Memoranda at a book shop a bit ago and his works seem somehow vintage and modern, comfortable but also a bit awkward. I adore his use of color and pattern and his pieces speak to me the same way that one of my very favorites does: Matisse.
I love how he plays with three dimensionality and I just feel like I fit right in in his universe. Apparently he’s L.A. local (which does not surprise me, somehow his pieces feel very L.A. to me) but I couldn’t find an artist website–just selected works over at Saatchi. Fancy. Anyway, if you’re listening Raffi, If you ever need a decorator, I love barters, and I really want of your paintings ;)
