Bold and Bright Wall-art installation pt. 1

 

I’m working on an art installation in my living room, inspired by this project I did over the summer. The image above was the original concept for the installation.

Picking out the colors to use for these kinds of creative projects are always challenging, but I love it. I could fan out color swatches and mix and match the colors for days.  I think ultimately how I choose color palettes is kind of an emotional process–which is why I like to take my time when choosing colors. I also like to get little sample cans of paint and try the colors out on the wall before going for it. Colors change so much depending on where they are placed, time of day, and what quality of light is on in the room…

This is the color palette that I ended up with. It’s a range of colors that felt tropical and bright (read: jungalicious) but also very modern…

And when I opened the cans, I knew I made the right choices.  I chose Emerald Interior paint by Sherwin Williams. I chose the matte because I was going to be using so many colors in the project, that I wanted the color to be bold and bright but not glossy.

It went on really smoothly and easily, and it was easy to get the paint on evenly and quickly–and it’s pretty crazy, the hardest part of this project was actually choosing out the right colors.
