So Amanda, my trainer, just moved into a new Studio (I knew she would be moving when we started working together so I didn’t paint at her old place or anything).
She moved from a one-bedroom into a a studio. I’ve never decorated a studio apartment and was excited about the idea of trying out small-space solutions. I used paint to divide the bedroom area from the living room area–see how half the room is painted aqua and the other half white?
Most of the things I got for her last place fit comfortably in the new space. We are still looking for a few more things though…the perfect small sofa (but one that could sleep guests if need be)–and some kind of great piece for storage.
This is the rug that we ended up choosing (remember I was got to pick out a rug from Medallion Rugs?) It is very big so covers the mediocre carpeting that is on the floor. I found that pretty vintage mirror at a thrift store. With things like accent mirrors, I like to go vintage when I can–it adds so much character to a space–and old glass has a different quality to it than new glass–I love all of the imperfections. The coffee table and drum side table are from World Market. The cute little blue mid-century style chair is from Euro Style Lighting.
The wall-weavings were another lucky thrift store find. Whenever you’re thrifting, always look in the linens section–you never know what kind of amazing textiles are hanging among the gross pilly blankets and used sheets. The mid-century-style lamp is also from Euro Style Lighting, the bench is from World Market. The little green desk and stool are from Zenteak in West Hollywood.
As for me, I feel REALLY good. I’m down twenty pounds–which trips me out becausue Ida weighs about twenty pounds, and when I hold her up and think that I lost that amount of weight off of my body it’s pretty astounding. I’ve taken four inches off of my waist and lost 4% of my body fat. But even more important to me than the weight–my energy, my confidence, my strength and my sense of being in control of myself and my body is back. I can carry Ida around on my hip for twice as long and I can jog around the Silverlake Reservoir without feeling like I’m gonna barf.
Despite how much better I feel, I still think I would have a very hard time motivating to get to the gym three days a week (or at all) if Amanda weren’t waiting for me there. She pushes me to make my health a priority in my life and she holds me accountable and I will forever be grateful to her for that. I mean, what (besides Ida) could be more important than health? I am very proud of myself for the hard work and I have decided that even after Amanda and I are done with the barter that I will continue to work out with her. It will be a stretch for me financially but it’s worth it if this is what I need to make healthy choices and be active. It’s not a new years resolution, it’s a life resolution…
WOW! What an “everybody wins” barter Justina. The studio looks incredible and so do you, but as you said, your confidence being sky high is definitely the biggest win!! I’ve found that investing in things that make healthy living easier is SO worthwhile even when they feel indulgent (see: my $34 Soul Cycle classes). Feeling going and doing right by your mind and body will pay off in the long run so I say go for it!!!
I’m with you 100%. I can’t tell you how many times I have been shopping and thought this time and money would be better spent at the gym. Anything and everything looks better when you are toned and confident. I also can’t tell you how many times I would have skipped the gym if my trainer wasn’t waiting. Best money ever spent! Oh, and the apartment looks great!
What a beautiful home!!!! I love the mixture of rugs, wood and trinkets!!! Another great post!

Yay! I love that. Congrats on the progress. Have you hit the point where it suddenly goes from “surviving” the gym to LOVING it? Took me about three months of steady attendance at my classes (love them – sounds similar to your fab relationship with Amanda), but I finally feel like I’ve turned a really fit corner. <3 Congrats! & keep it up, lady!
20 pounds, that’s pretty amazing, well done! Now, when is your trainer moving to London?! ;-) That studio looks lovely, so much character and personality, and I love that little green desk and stool. What a fabulous barter.
The place looks amazing and so do you!
Pretty pretty pretty! All of it is so pretty! Well done for all the progress in the exercise barter – you look amazing. I love your selfies! :)
You look amazing and you look like you feel amazing. Congratulations!
So I just realized… does this mean the end of “zany and zaftig” posts?? Because you’re really not so zaftig at ALL! (But… I miss those posts!)
Ha! no worry lady, I still got plenty of meat on these bones–Z+Z is here to stay!
Justina, you look like you feel…beautiful, strong and confident. You have inspired me to get to the gym and redeem my two remaining personal training sessions. I want to purchase more sessions and invest in my health. I want to show up for MYSELF in all areas of my life. Thank you!
You’re so beautiful boocakes. That’s an awesome barter. Love ya!
I am absolutely in live with your rug and I have been searching high and low for the perfect rug. Can you tell me anymore about it as to what I would need to know to search for that exact rug! I did go on medallion rugs website but didn’t see anything like that. Love the colors
Sincerely Montana! :)
Try following along with this collection I have on eBay–I’m always finding great rugs on eBay and I add them to this gallery: http://www.ebay.com/cln/justina-blakeney/Im-floored/56374941019 good luck!!

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She
placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and
it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
