I’m writing this with a HUGE smile on my face right now. I made the finals in the Homie Awards–Apartment Therapy’s award for best design blog–basically, the design blog’s version of the Oscars…(or maybe the Golden Globes… :P) A HUGE thanks to those of you that helped to make that happen. If you’re a regular around here and don’t wanna hear my whole spiel, but DO wanna vote you can VOTE HERE–and I will be SO, SO grateful.
If you’re clicking over here for the first time to see what this blog is all about, I’d love to take this opportunity to share a bit about my blog. First and foremost, this space is about sharing ideas. I am a creative Jill-of-all-trades type and I have been sharing daily inspirations since 2008. I am a free-spirit. I am hyper passionate about home decor. My style tends toward the wild, I’m obsessed with plants, enjoy bright colors and patterns. Thrifting is my jam. I love thinking of new uses for old things and coming up with cheap and easy ways to make home decor a little bit more fun. This is a good example:
My home, that I fondly call the Jungalow, is a protagonist of the blog–I’m always tinkering and changing things up around here–and even though it’s a rental I really enjoy just layering on the color and the plants and experimenting.
Sometimes, I get personal. My readers are smart and have helped me get through some more difficult times, like dealing with breast feeding issues and post-pregnancy (and C-section) body issues, and I approach deeper questions about things like the use of the word ‘ethnic.’
A lot of the time I just like to make and share pretty pictures. Besides messing around with home decor I also do styling. I teach really affordable styling classes online (accessibility is a big thing for me). And sometimes, something as simple as a bowl of fruit inspires me to make something pretty:
I love to travel. I lived abroad in Italy for many years and speak a lot of languages. Perhaps it’s my multicultural heritage but I am really inspired by mixing pieces from different pockets of the earth, like in this Pop-up pre-fab I designed for Air BnB last year:
This year I’ve also been on a mission to get healthy. I’ve been bartering personal training for home decor to help with this– I’ve gone down two pant sizes and my trainer has a totally new boho-glam vibe in her apartment.
My main goal here is to inspire and to be inspired. I’m super passionate about blogging and I love to spread the beauty I find in even the most unusual places.
This is a happy place, a colorful place, a plantastic place. This is a place that embraces imperfections and supports growth and #boldmoves. And that’s me in a nutshell–or a seashell or something.
Now, if you find this an inspiring place I would love for you to CAST YOUR VOTE for me now.. I’m up against some amazing blogs run by some really inspiring folks–so it’s an honor to even be up there at all–but now that I’ve come this far–I’m not gonna lie…I wanna win this thing! You’ll need to register here (if you haven’t already done so) and you can VOTE HERE. THANK YOU so much friends, and if you’re new–I hope to see so again soon. Hit me up on instagram and twitter too–I love meeting new friends.
