Last week Dabito and I hopped on a plane headed south. We ended up in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Dallas, Texas to shoot two more amazing homes for the book. I had never been to either town/city and found myself quite enamored with Las Cruces. Both homes were very inspiring, full of color and flavors from all over the world–but the local flavors were present too. The Mexican vibe was in full force and I loved every minute of it. And I found that crayzee deer skull covered in turquoise at the Whoopie Bowl Antique Mall in El Paso, TX–quite the score, yes? You can’t imagine the looks I got taking that thing through security at the airport. I tried to hide it in my tote bag and they pulled me to the side to check my bag. Finally the security guy looks at me and nods “It’s a decorative skull, I get it.” and he let me go through. It was pretty hilarious. I think he reads Elle Decor when he’s not digging through people’s luggage.

These images are stunning! Makes me want to take a trip just to see if I could score something as amazing as that turquoise encrusted deer skull ;-) I can’t wait to see how you feature these homes in your book.

I grew up in Las Cruces. The the town has changed a lot in recent years but the valley is still just as beautiful and the Organ mountains will always be majestic. The food, there is no place where you can get such delicious chili.Love your photos!

Wonderful photos of the southwest! I also grew up in the Las cruces region and find so much beauty in it. Thanks for sharing info on the antique mall as well, I will have to make a trip down there next time I’m visiting!
