I’ve been making leaf portraits for a few years now, but even I have to admit that I’ve taken it to the next level these past couple of weeks. This is my favorite. Her ref ‘fro is made from bristles form the bottlebrush flower (Callistemon). Her eyes are bamboo leaves, the bow in her hair are leaves from the jade plant. The earrings are epidendrum orchids.
I was kinda blown away as I was processing the photo on VSCO and tried it in black and white. She kinda came alive! Especially her hair, yes?
This is a project that is REALLY fun, that is REALLY easy, and REALLY cheap (free) and you should make these with your kids, or with your lovers, or with your teachers, or even all by your lonesome–and when you do please show them to my by taking photos of them and posting them on Instagram using the #FacesOfFoliageAndFlowers.

It is stunning in black and white. What a great idea.
Do you preserve and keep them somehow?

only in the photos! I kind of love that after I’m done I put them in the compost! Their temporary nature is part is my favorite thing about them :)
