DIY: Nicole’s Nature prints

A really simple way to add some pretty art to your walls is to make it yourself- or have your kids do it!  I gathered ephemeral objects from nature and made some surprisingly beautiful prints with them.  If you’re like me or Justina (hello #facethefoliage ;)), you probably already pick up pretty pieces from the natural world or at least have an appreciation for them.  All I did was choose pieces with the most pleasing shapes and textures, slapped some paint onto them, stuck them down on paper, peeled the paper back and voilà!

1. Use objects (preferably flat) such as feathers & leaves.

2. Paint them – I used black chalkboard paint, but any household or acrylic paint will work.

3. Lay your painted object down on a nice piece of paper while covering with another sheet of paper to save a bit of mess; press firmly down and push across your object so that the paint transfers evenly.

Keep in mind the paint shows up on both pieces of paper and both have different looks, so you could use two nice sheets of paper rather than the one on top simply being to save your hands from getting paint all over them.  Try transferring the same object again to get a more transparent effect.

Put them up in your home or give as a gift- make them into cards for special occasions!  When I was painting my split leaf philodendron on a sheet of paper to catch the excess paint, I was surprised to see what a beautiful outline it made on the page.  I loved it so much, I hung it up as well!

What you’ll need:

Found object from nature; feathers, leaves, flat seashells…
Paint – household or acrylic in any color of the rainbow
Paper – a nice quality stock will make your print that little bit fancier
