Yesterday I had a defining moment in my career. I went to Skylight Books, (one of my favorite local bookshops) and grabbed a few new shelter mags, as I do pretty much every Sunday. At checkout, I opened up Elle Decor and landed directly on this page. Yes, dear friends, a full page of me in my jungalow in an ad for Loloi. What the what?!
My heart skipped a beat. I knew this was coming out, but still–seeing in there, in print was really exciting. I looked over to my little Ida, and held the magazine open to that page, showing her. “Look Ida,” I beamed, “momma is in Elle Decor!” She looked at me quite blankly and said, “I want a smoothie.”
Fine. Smooshed bananas and strawberries are infinitely more exciting than your mom’s dreams coming true. I get it. Well I was still excited. And truth be told a smoothie did sound good.
Anyway…back to my kvelling…A few months ago Loloi asked if they could come shoot the ad here at the jungalow I was like “here?!?” I still have a hard time believing that MY little rental is getting this kind of play–but hey, I’m not complaining. I told the kind folks at Loloi to come on down!
Here are a few #BTS shots from the day. The talented crew and the people at Loloi COULD not be any sweeter and we had a lot of fun. We tried a few different outfits–both on me and on the floors.
I actually really love this rug too.
And then of course there are the Loloi pillows that I’ve been incorporating into every project since the shoot.
I loved the way that Tami did my hair and makeup. I still felt like ‘me’ but just kind of like a mermaid version ;)
And while sometimes it’s not easy having another stylist style my home, the very talented Crisman and I totally hit it off, can’t you tell?! He loved all my weird sh*t just as much as I do!
Here’s the whole team, and that’s Cyrus Loloi on the right. It’s a family business–isn’t that rad?! Plus, Cyrus can jump!
The whole experience was pretty dreamy, and Cyrus let me keep the rug–which I’m pretty obsessed with. (Thank you Cyrus!) If you love it as much as I do you can purchase the Xavier rug here.
Pinch me! Then let’s get smoothies.

first of all this is amazing and really super exciting. congrats!
but I do have some questions about Loloi/Urban. I have a fair trade certified rug in the EXACT same pattern, texture, colors as the hooked stripe pillow that I bought about 3 months ago from West Elm. However I can’t seem to find anything on the Loloi website about fair trade certification or ethics. Urban Outfitters has a wretched reputation for stealing designs from fair trade/ethically sourced brands. They recently did it to ethical clothing brand, Ace and Jig. Loloi also has this pillow on their website. Am I missing something? It can’t be a coincidence because the design is far too intricate so I’m hoping that there’s a detail or connection here that I’m not aware of. Maybe West Elm stole it?

Hey Dominique–all good questions. I have seen the rug you are talking about from West Elm, and I have the Loloi pillow–I am pretty sure that the rug is *not* Loloi — I can tell you that the rug and the pillow were both made in India–and many times when production facilities are close, designs often come out looking very similar–this could be one of those cases…but really that’s just speculation…

Just gorgeous–both you and your home! I’ve just recently discovered you and your design, and am absolutely inspired! Question (if you don’t mind my asking): where did you get the lovely tops you’re wearing? I adore that style, and am looking to get more boho beauty in my life :) Thanks for your amazing style and inspiration!

Thanks so much!! The black and tan floral top is vintage (sorry!) but the other top is from a wonderful brand, Gypsan, that you can find here: http://gypsan.com/
