I hopped over to NYC for a few days for a friend’s wedding and a few work meetings. I lived in Brooklyn from 2006-2008 and had a really hard time there. Working freelance and being in a long-distance relationship with then-boyfriend (now hubby) Jason, meant that I had a hard time meeting people, and felt very isolated. It was crazy expensive, the weather was intense for this California girl–and after giving a shot for a couple of years I moved back to L.A.. Now, however, when I go back to NYC I have the best time. I absolutely love walking around, the proximity of everything all of the hustle and bustle, art and culture. I got to visit the new Whitney museum and the High Line for the first time and was totally blown away. I’m not sure if I’ll ever live in NYC again, but I sure do love when I get to visit.

I always think I’d love to live in NYC, but I don’t think my mister would ever go for it. I’m always thankful to have a chance to visit!

OMG we were in NY around the same time! I left in 2007. But lived in Harlem. Worlds away from BK by NY standards.

I lived close to NY for seven years. While I didn’t like the city I lived in, I fell in love with NY. It never leaves anybody apathetic-people either love it or hate it. So much energy. I would spend there hours. I covered some abnormal distances by feet. It’s like the city lends you its battery, for a while.
The weather was hell though. Really. I loved NY, but California immediately felt like my place. Different sky..
Oh, and High Line is amazing. It was around that time when I still lived there, when they built it. Everybody was so excited. I took all the guests that came to visit us, to see the High Line.
Gorgeous pictures, Justina.

I lived in New York (Brookyn) all my life. I moved to Philadelphia, a year and a half ago – I love it here. It’s not as expensive, fast paced or congested. And there’s so much history – very pleasant. Also, it’s only two hours to NY (I go back and forth – my family still is there), and less than three going to DC. Look me up when you come back, I’ll show you around Philly.

I agree NYC is a great place to visit and get a dose of everything! But I wouldn’t want to live there. I live in Seattle whose pace (and sprawl) is more like LA–there is something distinctly mellow about West Coast cities compared to NYC, and frankly, I prefer it.
Thank you for adding your touch to the scene in LA–making THAT city something more exciting and vibrant.
