I don’t know about you, but I often think of DIYs as things I will have in my home for a good time, not necessarily a long time. What you make yourself doesn’t have to be perfect, it can sometimes be just for fun, to switch things up a little in your space or for that therapeutic feeling you get from creating something with your hands.
This party pendant ticks all of those boxes; try making one for your next bash at home, kid’s birthday party or just because. It is SO simple.
I found these awesome (and convenient) metal loops at my local craft store and got them in a few different sizes. You could always use something else that’s circular like an embroidery circle or two.
1) Cut your tissue paper and mylar (the shiny stuff) into long strips. I did mine roughly the same length and width apart, but they can all be different sizes if you choose.
2) Place a bit of craft glue along your circle for where you will start adding your strips.
3) Press down your paper strip with a little tiny bit showing at the top, then fold that part over top of the circle base. I moved my strips around a bit during this part to make sure the top got enough glue on it to stick down properly.
4) Do this with your alternating strips until the whole loop is filled with paper. Then work on a smaller one to hang below it for added depth. You can do this for as many layers as you want; I just did two.
5) Loop a bit of fishing wire at every quarter of your largest circle, so it will hang flat when you attach it. I tied mine as a pendant onto a hanging lightbulb above my dining room table, so that I have the option to light it if I want. *Which when lit, I would never leave unattended, because it is a paper pendant after all!
6) Do the same with your fishing wire to your smaller circle and hang it midway down from your main circle. You could attach the fishing wire from the smaller loop to the bigger one or just have it hanging independently from where you attached your first loop. For mine I tied them both onto the wire hanging from the ceiling.
Eh bada boom, bada bing! Now you’ve added some pizazz to your space, it’s time to plan the fiesta! Could it be under the sea themed? This looks a bit like a jellyfish to me ;)

this could be the beginning of a very cool jelly fish costume.

Totally! Would be a good idea to maybe use those cheap plastic table cloths for it- more durable than tissue paper.

Oh – I love this idea! This would be great for a photography prop for my cake smash session :)
