We’ve been fans of designer Andrea Pippins for awhile now. With all the spectacular art, fashion, and music she digs up to share with readers, to her own gorgeous artwork, we always find inspiration on her blog, Fly. She’s also always been super supportive of all of our projects over here at the Jungalow too–so when we got the news that she had a coloring book- for grown ups- coming out, we knew it we had to get our hands on a copy!!
I Love My Hair celebrates hair in all it’s many styles and types- from wild curls, to tidy braids, cropped coils, and even fanciful ‘do’s sprouting flowers, fish, or butterflies. Andrea, began creating art that featured hair as a way to encourage African American women to love and embrace their natural hair. She views her new coloring book as a way to inspire all women and girls to feel good about themselves — and we can get behind that!!
Filled with gorgeous ‘doodles’ (as Andrea calls them), we could easily get lost for hours coloring the intricate pages of I Love My Hair– and hey, with studies suggesting that coloring can be a good stress reliever, it’s a total win-win way to spend some time! Also probably no need to suggest what a beautiful holiday gift this book would make.
Congrats Andrea on a gorgeous book! Even though we know the book is for adults, we’ve noticed our little Ida ogling these pages too with excitement at the prospect to color curls, just like hers.
