Of all the moments in #TheNewBohoBook, this is one of my favorites. It’s from the sitting room at the home of designer Erica Tanov in Berkeley. If my memory serves me, she won this antique cabinet at an auction. It was after being in this room, in this home, that I decided to make a chapter in the book for the Romantic Bohemians. While I don’t know the history of this particular piece, it’s got mid century lines (those peg legs are a giveaway) and the paintings on the cabinet are clearly Asian or Asian-inspired, though I don’t know enough about these things to say much more about it (if you have more details, I’d love to learn!) The color combo and the gold on black, combined with that mid-century silhouette, make the cabinet quite striking, yes? It’s the stories that I could invent around this room, this cabinet, these objects collected from different countries and different eras that make it a romantic bohemian moment for me.
Here are a collection of cabinets that have a similar feel. While I really love the black one in Erica’s home, for my home I’d probably go with one of the more colorful options. I love the idea of including a cabinet or dresser like this in a room where it’s least expected–mixed in with layered Moroccan rugs, Mexican tile, and a mid-century Italian sofa…of course that might take a Romantic Bohemian moment and make it Maximal, but I just can’t help myself.
Check out these Asian and Asian-inspired cabinets, and my other new favorite vintage picks from this month over at my partners’ site, Chairish.
I love this style of cabinets! My advice, if possible, to go for a quality one or even better an antique. You can find in the market some made industrially that, I assure, you don’t have the same charme…

I love these cabinets! I just bought a side table that resembles Erica’s cabinet at a thrift store for $9.00 and I’m in heaven!
I’m crazy about that tiger one – would go perfectly in my boys’ jungle themed room!

I think the admin of this site is truly working hard in support of his web site, for the reason
that here every data is quality based data.
of course like your web-site but you need to check the spelling on several
of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I in finding it very bothersome
to tell the reality then again I’ll definitely come again again.
Thankfulness to my father who told me about this website, this web site is in fact awesome.
