If there is one place to make a WILD statement with lighting, it’s probably over the dining room table. It’s one of those moments in the home that begs for a little something outrageous. As we begin to decorate our dining room, I’m thinking about what direction to go in for that very statement. Above you can see some of our choices thus far for the room. We are using our Aja Wallpaper in aubergine which is super bold, but (kind of oddly), since it has so many gold tones, it feels like a bold neutral the same way that metallics can work as neutrals.
The rug we’re using, which is from my Fable collection with Loloi Rugs (available here and here) and it has those same earthy tones and gold as well, giving the room almost a safari feel. So when it comes to the lighting, I think I want something with a bit of gold as well, and something that can make the room feel jungalow-chic!! Here are some of my picks:
I love the modern feel of (#1) and (#7). I love the Moroccan orb (#8) but I’m afraid it’s not big enough to make a BIG visual impact. (#6) is kinda perfect, but it’s not in our budget. (#4) is funky and I love the nod to the cactus shape. Which style/shape do you think would work best?
You can find all of my lighting picks on my favorites page over on our partners’ site Chairish and also discover some of my other vintage favorites of the moment!

Before you even mentioned it #1 was my favorite. It feels modern, but unique, and I love that its the only one with a flush mount- it will look like its dripping balls of light… awesome!

I like #1 the most..it has the elegant MC vibe. I also like the Moroccan orb & think it would fit right in with your wallpaper.

#2 or #5, possibly a slight preference for #5.

Im digging #2. I think that would be fun and a good scale with the table.

Without checking the links and prices-I love #6 the most. Well I’m drawn to color what can I say..
In terms of light though-I think #1,2 and 5 will give the most pleasant diffused light.
Between these I’d choose #5..i like its asymmetry…
(and I’d get the one with the cactus shape too, and invent some place i just have to put it..)))

PS I checked the prices. Goodness. Fixture #6 is twinkling “Good bye” with all its lights.
I got almost all my light fixtures from Craigslist and Etsy and eBay for a (relative) song, most of them from Europe. Was cheaper than very ordinary stuff here, even with shipping charges. I was so very proud of myself. Until yesterday, LOL-it appears no standard American crossbars can be found in stores in order to actually install them..and some sockets need to be changed for very specific ones so it’s huge PITA too..
so now I need to spend hours to find rare specialty shops that deal with this kind of stuff, in hope they will be able to do the necessary fittings, so we can actually use my “amazing” finds.
If I only knew.
Sometimes it’s worth paying more.

Oh this is funny because I just did the same thing with reclaimed French doors I found at a flea market. I was so proud of myself for finding gorgeous, affordable ones, but then it cost me $2000 to get the door frame built! Doh!! You live you learn I guess, huh?

I was immediately drawn to #6 but for $15,000? Yikes, can’t do. i know it’s possible to change lights in a rental but i’m too lazy to do it! i would love to though. i have ceiling fans in almost every room. awful.
did you change light fixtures in your rental before home buying?
love that rug!! love that whole look..

What an incredible assembly! I think you should go with the Moroccan orb, but use 3 and group them at different heights.
