Target has a new collection out for the kiddos — it’s called Pillowfort and it is F U N! What I love about the collection is that the pieces are really versatile. They are playful, but are also quite modern — so the furniture and decor items don’t have to be relegated to the kid’s room to look great and be functional for the whole family.
Since homes aren’t always big enough for a full-on home office (and Ida’s room is so small that there is no room for a desk), I’ve partnered with Target to create a dedicated workspace that is a kind of “inspiration station” for everyone in the household- using some of my favorite Pillowfort pieces.
Maybe it’s a small area in the dining room, or tucked away in a corner of the living room, but the inspiration station is the place where Ida can come and color in her coloring books and my 9-year old niece, Noa (who hangs out with us a lot) can do her homework too. And it’s also a perfect place for me to pitch to pay bills and well, maybe even to *more* inspiring stuff like brainstorm for my next book.
As a child I was obsessed with dollhouses. I spent hours and hours using carpet and wallpaper samples to deck out the mini-rooms and spent most of my allowance on buying mini furniture pieces. These little houses are the perfect throwback to my dollhouse days, they can house art supplies and our little collections of shells and crystals that Ida and I collect together and I love that the two little pink houses also double as bulletin boards.
The Pillowfort collection has really fun colors to choose from too. A very Miami palette — with hints of gold here and there. Works perfectly for a kid’s room, but totally sophisticated enough for a corner in the dining room, too.
Many details from the collection are very thoughtful…for example the desk lamp (that comes in a few different colorways) has no buttons and you just tap it to turn it off and on. Ida is gonna freak out with excitement when she uses it for the first time. It’s MAGIC!!
The collection is pretty huge, there are actually a bunch of different styles or ‘rooms’ to explore. My favorites are “Modern Mirage” and “Tropical Treehouse” (duh!) but there are really great pieces in all of the collections. The Pineapple lamp, is killing me.
And here you can shop the look from our inspiration station, and also see some of my other favorites from the collection.
