Prince was my first ever concert. I had life-sized posters of him up in my dorm room in college. He was my absolute favorite musical artist of all time. He helped me learn to embrace myself as I am, to go for it, to be as sensual, as ambiguous, as wild andĀ free as I need to be. Yesterday was tough.
Leaving you today with some purple cacti, and his words:
Honey, I know, I know
I know times are changing
It’s time we all reach out
For something new, that means you too
You say you want a leader
But you can’t seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it
And let me guide you to the purple rain.

Feel the same way..such a beautiful human being.

I’ve cried at least two teary sessions. He was just my favorite. No disrespect to Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston but I didn’t shed tears for them. I was saddened by their losses. However, Prince is just on another level for me. Just still in shock a day later.

Yesterday when I dropped my daughter at preschool they had all the kids outside dancing and riding tricycles while Prince was blasting on a little stereo. It was the best thing ever. ?

Aw! We did our morning spin class to Prince at YAS in Venice. So inspiring to hear all of the songs that he has written.

Justina, Thanks for posting this tribute in true Jungalow style but with a sunny nod to Prince. I re-watch his reserved interviews and then his colossal performance style and try to remember to bold and true to the messages I receive from the universe, too.

Funny that purple was something I always associated with my mom; now it only makes me think about Prince. I still can’t process that he is gone. He was more my kid’s generation than mine, but his talent and presence transcended time and place. They show a picture on TV and my heart just breaks. What a loss for the world!

Please where can I get the purple cacti I have looked every where by the time I find it I;ll be 80 yrs old. this has been my bucket list thanks love your site.
Danae Horst says
Hi Mary Jean! If you have someone in your area who specializes in cacti, they should be able to help source one for you. It’s an Opuntia, but if you show them a photo that will work too. I’ve even seen them at Lowe’s occasionally, so I promise they are out there. It’s worth noting they aren’t always purple- they become more purple in times of drought or other stress, so it’s possible you’ve seen one and didn’t even know. Good luck!
