Cacti are already weird and cool–the aliens of the plant world I’d say. But then they start to bloom, and it’s like what the what?? All of the sudden, the cactus flowers make cacti go from weird and cool to *magic*!
I’ve been coming more and more obsessed with cactus flowers, and the more obsessed I get, the more I start to notice them popping up on my radar.
I’m predicting we’re gonna start to see them appear on wedding banquet tables, hipster T-shirts and throw pillows everywhere.
These little dudes with the bright pink flower crowns really get me. Don’t they look like little brides maids??
Also this one, that looks like a swollen hand with a pink manicure. So good.
So what do you think? Are cactus flowers the new pineapples?

I have one of the ones with the pink flower crowns. It’s a pincushion cactus, and it was a pleasant surprise to watch the crown continuously bloom in a spiral up the cactus until a single flower was left on top. I didn’t know it would flower, but its bright pink blooms from January to March this year were a godsend to the dreary snow that was outside.

I completely agree! I’ve always been in love with the beautiful bloom of cacti, and it seems like now, everyone else has been as well. I wouldn’t mind seeing more and more of these beautiful desert flowers everywhere.

I have a cactus on my desk at work with a little pink flower on the top. It wasn’t until after I’d bought it that I looked closer and realised it was a dried flower that had been superglued on!!
Would love a genuine flowery cactus! Xxx

I was in California recently and a lot of the cacti were flowering because there had been rain recently. So magical! http://www.craftylittlegnome.com/2016/03/14/photo-journal-california/

I really love the pictures you took. I would love to be able to purchase the first one and omgosh…the second cactus photo you took is my favorite. Sooo dreamy. Are they for sale?

Thanks so much for the kind words, Tara! They were snapped on my iphone, so they’re not really high-res enough to sell prints–but I’m working on capturing some images will my real camera ( I’m actually in the desert right now on the hunt for cactus flowers!!)

Do you feel like part of it is the local (L.A.) push for xeriscaping due to the drought? So many people in my neighborhood are taking out existing landscaping and putting in things like cacti and succulents to be more water wise. Thankfully, there are people like you guys who show us how lush xeriscaping can look.
