If you’re tuned into the design scene, or even if you’ve just visited a Target recently, you’re probably familiar with Rebecca Atwood. I’ve been homies with her for years over the interwebs but only recently had the pleasure of meeting her in person. She is one of the sweetest, kindest people I’ve met in a long time and her presence kind of reminds me of that of a deer–Rebecca, if you don’t have a spirit animal already, I think that you should be a deer. :)
From Rebecca’s design work for many major retailers, to her recent package design collaboration with Method, and her own line of beautiful home goods, Rebecca has established herself as a pattern expert so we were *super* excited to check out her new book, Living With Pattern: Color, Texture and Print at Home. Folks. The book is good. Like really good – smart, fun, inspiring and full of great tips and ideas. Rebecca’s style is much more muted and, let’s say ‘gentle’ than my own, but I still found SO MANY great ideas and projects in here.
Starting in the opening sections primer on color, texture, pattern, Rebecca helps readers understand the fundamentals in learning how to mix patterns, create color palettes, and tell your own story through these elements. Some of the most-asked questions we get at The Jungalow have to do with mixing patterns and colors, so we know this primer will be really helpful!
From the primer, Rebecca moves on to each room of the home. Illustrating, though photos of real homes, how to use pattern in ways that work best for the room, each chapter is peppered with practical tips on how to personalize the concepts to ‘make it your own’. Closing out many of the room chapters is an entire section on styling, with tutorials on essentials like layering rugs, setting a table, and styling a bed.
(Um, how pretty is this bathroom???)
Last, but not least, the book closes with a Projects section that takes you step-by-step through 10 different DIY projects, like a dip dyed woven chair seat or potato print floor cushions, and then finishes out with instructions for dying fabric, upholstering, and caring for linens. Always being down for a good DIY, this is one of our favorite sections!
Living With Pattern is available now– you can order a signed copy on Rebecca’s site, or pick one up at a variety of retailers.
As a special treat for all our jungalistas, Rebecca is also offering a 20% discount for anything in her shop (except wallpaper or artwork) for the next two weeks! Just use code Jungalow20 at checkout!
Congrats Rebecca, this book is the sh*t!!
