I’m so thrilled to be working with Kohler on our new bathroom remodel. It’s the last room in the house to get an update. You may remember this post where you all helped me to figure out the new layout. We decided on the below configuration– the entrance to the bathroom remains in the bedroom, but it allows us to keep the closets, which we really need. We’ll use barn doors so that we fix the door swing issues. The bathroom will stay small but we will be employing a lot of design ‘tricks’ to make the room feel larger.
We will move the bath tub under the window (which will be much bigger than the current window.) The bath tub will span the width of the bathroom so we chose the Underscore alcove bath. The side of the tub will be tiled like the floor to create that spa-vibe that I love.
Here is our mood board for the room. The concept is natural, lots of greens (surprise!), Moroccan influences (double surprise! haha) like the elephant star tile from Fireclay tile. We want the space to feel fresh and modern but simultaneously homey and luxurious.
Natural materials are a major focus for this bathroom. We are going to do a reclaimed wooden vanity, maybe live edge. I’m looking at different limewash paint options for the walls–I love the uneven, natural look of limewash. It’s nontoxic, antibacterial, and mold resistant. We’re very focused on the whole bathroom being (and feeling!) very natural, eco-friendly and water-saving. We picked a water-saving toilet that uses 20 percent less water than 1.6-gallon toilets–muy importante in California.
We chose a glass sink — the Inia Wading Pool Sink in Translucent Dew which is this really pretty light turquoise and the glass has a subtle hammered texture that reminds me of Moroccan glassware or large recycled glass jugs. I’m so excited to see how this drop-in sink plays with the wood of the vanity. I think it’s going to be a very cool juxtaposition.
For hardware, we decided on Kohler’s Purist line in a vibrant brushed bronze. The Purist line is very sleek and simple and the vibrant brushed bronze finish is SO pretty. It feels very luxe without the super-blingy effect brass has or the kind of ‘cold’ feeling that chrome can sometimes give off. The bronze is somehow warm and cool at the same time. This means that each room in our house is going to have a different color finish — copper in the kitchen, brass in our other bathroom, and bronze here. To me, picking the hardware finish is no different than picking colors of tiles or drapes. I want the finish to feel good for the room it’s in — what works in the bathroom might be different than what works in the kitchen.
Here are some images to convey inspirations for the colors and textures. It’s almost like a Tulum-meets-Morocco vibe in a Jungalow spa. I still have a lot to figure out like paint colors and size/shape of the window that we’re putting in. Also, I still have to design the exact vanity and some kind of custom storage cabinet. But overall I’m so excited. After getting some serious inspirational vibes from Kohler’s IDEAS design website, we went to our Kohler Signature store and tested all of the shower heads and laid down in all of the bath tubs and I’m seriously counting down the weeks until I can bathe in that deep tub, and shower with our very pretty water-saving shower head. Gonna light a candle, turn on some samba and look up out the window at the sky, while I’m saving water ;).

This is how it looks in my mind right now. So fun. Totally my favorite part. We start the demo in a couple of weeks so stay tuned for more updates here and on social.

Loving the vibe here! Im so used to seeing boring, neutral and “safe” color choices when it comes to bathroroms. How refreshing to see a bold color story with some warmth.

Gorgeous….can’t wait to follow along. I just received my book and i just love that I have found pieces I own already in my home. Makes me feel like I have a good eye for the boho…my mom always called my taste eclectic or mismatched. LOL Glad there are others like me in the big world.

I’m going to be moving soon and the colors and textures (ocean blues and greens, wood and plants galore, and some metal finishes) are exactly what I’m aiming for in the living room and bathroom! This is so beautiful and I’m definitely taking notes and coming back for the finished product!

Good option, I think I will also do a similar update soon. Right now I’m picking plumbing in the articles https://bestplumbersclub.com/product-reviews/best-skirted-toilets/ to improve the new design
