Iylana Nassiri’s eclectic West Texas home beautifully embodies the nomadic bohemian vibe. Iylana and her husband, Shane, are world travelers who have filled their home with treasures from their adventures together in Morocco, Turkey, India and 40+ other countries. The couple shares their home with their rescue dog, Xerxes, named after an ancient ruler of Persia. They also run their vintage decor business, Indigo Trade from home. Their favorite room in the house is the bedroom because it has an east-facing window that lets all the light in and wakes them up naturally every morning.
Iylana and Shane live in a desert environment that resembles the Middle East – their second favorite part of the world after Texas – so their indoor plant collection is made up of almost entirely desert cacti and succulents.
Iylana and Shane hope that when someone comes over, they feel like they’ve stepped into a museum where they’re comfortable enough to touch the objects, and that one day, a great niece or nephew of theirs will inherit their belongings and want to hear all the stories behind them.
Iylana brings all the good vibes into her home by keeping the windows open to let the breeze in and burns incense every morning. She says a few Turkish eye talismans don’t hurt, either!
Iylana’s grandfather’s family is from Bohemia, a region of the Czech Republic, so it’s no surprise that she is spontaneous, adventurous, and embodies the unconventional bohemian spirit. Iylana shared with us that she thinks in this age – when the definition of how and where we work, the way we educate ourselves, and our definition of what it means to be a family is changing so drastically – norms are constantly being challenged and more people are embracing the unconventional. She says “it’s a great time to be alive!”
Shane and Iylana recently acquired a large Egyptian tent that they set up in their backyard. It was hand sewn in the Souq el-Khaymiya in Cairo and brought to Texas in the 1960s by a man in the oil industry who worked worked in Egypt for many years.
We just want to sneak in there for a cup of tea and a dreamy boho nap – that’s cool right?

Wow. People who want to use a more neutral color pallet could learn a lot by studying how they’ve decorated. The layering of color and use of texture is fantastic. What a beautiful home.
