I like to walk slowly outside so that I can give my attention to small moments that bring me joy and inspiration, often having to so with plants and flowers. This weekend, I came across a handful of botanicals that made me smile and think. I took a small lesson from each one of these botanical buddies and I thought I’d share those lessons here — especially after last week, which was a week full of life and death, sadness and uplifting moments, both for me personally and for the world at large.
This orange leaf reminded me that there is beauty in every life stage, even death.
This Lady Palm right in front of my home started sprouting pink flowers for the first time since I’ve lived here. I didn’t know she could that! She reminded me even very familiar figures in our lives can always surprise and delight us and grow and change.
This delicate ensemble of wildflowers reminded me beauty lies in contrast and diversity.
The herringbone pattern on this trunk reminded me that no matter how creative we humans are, Mother Nature was always there first — and she’s not even cocky about it.
We switched up the curtains in our blue room, and, as the sun played with the plants to design patterns on the fabric, it reminded me that shadow and light work in consort, and that the same is true for the dark and light moments in our own lives.
This world can seem very dark at times, but there is also so much love and beauty in it. Sending love to all who lost someone they love or admire. For me it’s my Auntie Boolie who brought so much joy and light-heartedness into the world while she was here.

Such a beautiful post. Seeing our growth and death and transformations as wonders of nature; seeing the new in the familiar, juxtaposition of light and shadow, and taking the time to see the awe, all a beautiful reminder that is at once humbling and uplifting.

Thich Nhat Hanh says that life and death “inter-are” meaning you can’t have one without the other. Similar to above and below, left and right, light and dark, hot and cold, these things cannot exist on their own, or with out the other. Where there is life there is death, where there is death there is life. Nature loves to show us this time and time again :)
Blessings!

It is so wonderful to see the simple ways that you notice hidden beauty and moments of reflection in the everyday. Easy to see how this translates into the style and artwork designs you’ve cultivated. Blessings and comfort to you in this time of mourning.
