When, nearly four years ago, we were designing our kitchen from scratch, I remember agonizing over every detail–from the custom copper finish of the shelf brackets to the exact shade of the dark grey grout going between the backsplash tiles. We even got copper salt and pepper shakers and a copper French press — because (besides being a little nuts) these are the little details that, in my opinion, turn a good design into a great design. But when it came time to choose the appliances, it was basically an exercise in choosing the least offensive looking appliances that had all the basic functionality that we wanted. And despite their large footprint, despite the fact that you can see our refrigerator from our front door, living room, and dining room, there really wasn’t affordable appliances that reflected my personal style or had any real design element to it at all. It was really just either shiny white or stainless, counter depth or not, French door or not. Those were the options. In an age where personalized is the new luxury, it seemed odd to me then how limited the choices were–especially when, in all other aspects of our kitchen design, everything else was hyper personalized down to our copper soap dispenser.
Turns out, I wasn’t the only one wondering why there were no sexy, affordable, appliances out there. Café Appliances saw the same gap in the market and decided to do something about it and they created the Café Collection: super stylish kitchen appliances in matte finishes with customizable accents that make any kitchen #DistinctByDesign – to reflect your unique design aesthetic. Also, they’re not just a pretty face… they have some crazy high-performance features that help you get all creative in the kitchen, too.
I got to see it all firsthand on a recent trip to Louisville, Kentucky, where I was lucky enough to be a guest of Café Appliances as a #CafePartner and check everything out with my own eyes and hands! If you would have told me the day before I left that that trip to Louisville, Kentucky to see new kitchen appliances would be one of the most fun and inspiring trips I’d been on in years, I probably would not have believed you. But WOW! OK Louisville, I underestimated you. Seriously. Sorry, my bad. I’ll never do that again.
We stayed at the 21C Museum hotel, which is an actual museum inside an actual hotel. I kid you not. There were Kehinde Wiley paintings in the lobby. Like WHAT?!?? It was amazing. I then got to meet up with the other women in the #CafeCollective. I was already buddies with a couple of people on the trip like Sarah Sherman Samuel who is a total design rock star in my book, but I got to make some new friends, too — like real friends who I’ve actually been keeping in touch with and meeting up IRL for coffee and stuff, so that’s cool (and kinda rare honestly!). After touring the factories where the appliances are made, we got to learn about some of the functionalities of the new appliances as well. Check my story highlights HERE to get a little sneak preview of some of the amazingness that I’m talking about — but a refrigerator that makes coffee and a dishwasher that has Bottle Wash Jets for cleaning out tall cups and bottles are just some of the bells and whistles that got me v. excited.
They prepped all kinds of fun activities for us, including creating mood boards for our dream kitchens, a bourbon tasting at the Old Forrester distillery, mixing metals while making some very pretty jewelry…did I mention a bourbon tasting? I left Louisville with a newfound appreciation for Kentucky. Louisville is a really fun, creative city with a great arts scene, very kind, fun people, delicious food and some seriously good lookin’ appliances ;).
Once I got home I was really excited to pick out my new appliances for #JungalowByTheRiver. I decided on the Matte White appliances (they are SO PRETTY!!!) with, you guessed it– Brushed Copper hardware. The hardware in the Café Collection really is like jewelry, because you can actually switch it out for different finishes — so, for example, if we ever decide we wanna switch things up and go Brushed Black or Brushed Stainless, we can do that. But in the meantime, our Brushed Copper hardware on our Matte White appliances will be the last little detail my kitchen needed before truly making it my dream kitchen that is #DistinctByDesign. I’m very lit over it.
Our new appliances should be arriving any day now and I can’t wait to see how it brings our kitchen to the next level. I know it’s gonna be a total game changer.

these are beautiful…but do you really think they are affordable?? I mean, I guess I’d love to live in a world where a $7k range was on the low-end of my appliance game…but I don’t. LOL. Really lovely that someone domestic is doing this though, when we were looking I only found European companies that offered this kind of attention to design and customization. So, I suppose you’d save on boat freight and VAT! :)

Hey! Thanks for stopping by! The range that I’m getting from the collection is actually under 3k— and while that’s certainly not the most affordable on the market, in my experience it’s a great price for the quality, functionality and attention to detail. Xoxo -justina

The black and white tile with the “stair” design in the first image is gorgeous, where is that from?

Love the black and copper. My last house I had Whirlpool Black Ice. This is even better. Though I did not get the microwave in this line. I wish the one I wanted was available in the Cafe series. Because of that even if I could afford the upgraded copper handles I wouldn’t because the microwave wouldn’t match.

I’m a sucker for copper and black. At my last residence, a Whirlpool Black Ice appliance was a staple. To top it all off, this is fantastic. Sadly, I was not one of the lucky ones to acquire a microwave in this queue. A book from driving directions the Cafe series would be perfect for me right now. For this reason, even if I had the money for the more expensive copper handles, I still wouldn’t get them since my microwave wouldn’t be a good fit.
