Yikes. Sorry about no post yesterday. I’ve had headaches for the past couple of days (apparently, fluctuating hormone levels in pregnancy can cause them) and so I took a computer-free day, hoping that this might calm the throbbing. I am feeling a bit better this morning but I have a new-found empathy for people who get migraines–no fun at all. On my computer-free day, one of the things that I did was try out a few DIY ideas for the wedding. Above are the boutonnieres that I fashioned from plants in my yard, washi tape and a couple of Crespedia Billy Balls. I think they came out quite nicely. Trying to figure out now which stuff to hire-out for the wedding and which stuff to DIY–tough decisions as fleeting time, pregnancy and 100000 ideas occupy my mind. We’ll see!
Did any of you all have to figure out how much to ‘DIY’ and how much to ‘buy’ for your wedding? What did you decide?
I hope you all are having a good, headache-free week (both literally and metaphorically!) Until tomorrow,
~Justina

I am at the same stage – planning on doing flowers and all decoration diy although I now getting a bit nervous about the idea of doing all of it :-)

Me too!! I’m thinking I need to stop DIY’ing and start delegating!! Yikes!

Ummm… that boutonniere is perfection. I had a lot of DIY plans but ended up “buying” a lot for my sanity. For one, I decided to purchase mason jars instead of collecting them. I thought we could DIY our florals, but because they needed to be fresh, we hired a florist to take care of it (major cost). I ended up DIYing the table numbers, name cards, programs, table runners, the mason jar candles, and any framed photos. Everything else was bought! I had lots of help from friends/family. Hint, hint… call me ;)

These little boutonnieres are simply gorgeous. OK, I had a sneak peek on Instagram and loved them instantly. Well, I am not married but I attended enough weddings to know that it might be quite tricky to embark on DIY projects especially as a bride or groom as there are so many things to organize, prepare, decide upon etc. On the other hand, is there anything more beautiful and personal than something made by hand with love and passion? Have a great day, Justina.
Justina Blakeney says
I totally agree!! That’s why it’s so hard to decide!! Thanks for the sweet comment Igor!

I’m clearly not married, but one of the most fun and beautiful weddings I ever went to was in Taos, NM. I was 12, but I was in the wedding so I remember all of it! The bride and groom were friends from our ranch at the time. It was a super low-budget DIY wedding. My mom made the dress for the bride (out of fabric given to her mother who had passed away), the groom wore a kilt (he’s scottish) and they got married by a buddhist priest under a home-made altar made out of reclaimed wood and flowers. It was a potluck, so everyone brought food and they set up areas with rugs and little tee pees all around that you could hang out in. so sweet!

Sacha– I just LOVE the vision of that wedding. It sounds magical and it reminds me that simple is good– which is a mantra that I have to keep saying to myself over and over and over :) + :*

Whoops, my long comment pertaining to your questions about what to hire or not ended up on your “5 Ideas to pump up color” comments zone. Prepare yourself for my link to my amateur photos for DIY inspiration. I was answering what I read you asking in this post.

I totally got your long comment and loved every minute of it. Thank you. Some great insights that you provide–and I think you’re right about not attempting to DIY all the bouques– I will work with a florist on thosse– it was fun to peruse those photos too– love the photo booth ! (what cute graphics!) Thanks for stopping by!!)

i love your creations so much, j! hope you’re feeling better right now. i know what you mean about choosing what you should make yourself vs pay the big bucks for…it can be hard! i think i tried to take on too much when planning and ended up delegating tasks to friends/family which helped out a lot. i did make my own bouts for the guys, guestbook, crafted programs, and josh’s stepdad made an awesome chuppah out of birch! i can’t wait to see what you end up diy-ing because i know it will be fab!
xo!

I have a gf who’s trying to figure out how much to DIY for her wedding – it’s almost endless as far as different possibilities! We have a lot of planning and deciding left to do

Love those boutonnieres! Just a suggestion: in case you do decide to DIY stuff like the bouquet or the boutonnieres, why not try to find a way to make them well in advance by using materials that aren’t perishable. Flowers (even billy buttons) do have a limited shelf life and you might want to avoid overloading yourself (time/stress) so close to the wedding. How about something like feathers, dip dyed sticks and stuff that will keep–that way you can make these weeks in advance, still DIY and hopefully people will have mementos of your wedding that they will be able to keep for a long time. I remember someone out in blogland had her bridal bouquet made up entirely out of thrifted brooches and it looked fabulous. Can’t remember who, but I’m sure a quick google search will turn up tons of ideas.
All the best Justina, can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
Justina Blakeney says
Thank you Gagan! Great ideas that I will take to heart! I have seen that broach-bouquet and it’s just beautiful. Although I must admit, I’ve had those billy-balls that I used in the boutonnieres for over one year and they are still going strong! But I LOVE the feather idea!! Thanks so much!

When you want the top looking lawn, you
need to keep it longer because it allows it to look fuller.
Some of my best writing and a couple of personal bests in the gym came on days
