I’ve been meaning to check out The Platform Experiment ever since I saw snaps of these crazy good wall hangings by All Roads on my Instagram feed, and I finally got over there this weekend. The shop has been there for a while but I never managed to make the mini schlepp to Highland Park to check it out until now. The layout, objects and interior styling in the shop had me really inspired, plus, I tend to like most things with the word “experiment” in it.
Their mix of handmade, vintage and well-traveled pieces is spot on–but for me, the most inspiring thing is that their business has two parts: a retail shop and a home staging business. I love this idea because I have dreamed of having a boutique again (I had one with my sister in Italy for four years) but I know from experience how difficult retail is–so this seems like such a smart way to cushion the ups and downs of retail. The spaces that they design are really well done and I’m sure they up the value of homes on the market quite a bit–home staging sounds like a fun job to me (in case I need to add one more “slash” to my job list–oy!)
If you haven’t been to Highland Park in a while (or ever) you should go stroll around York Blvd. There is some seriously cool stuff happening down there.

Beautiful photos! And yes, I can certainly vouch for Highland Park. Lived there and loved it so much! Like this new STOREFRONT feature, too. Great idea!
