My second trimester is coming to a close and Monday I officially enter my 3rd Trimester. The landscape of my body is changing quickly and drastically–the shape of my curves are shifting–and I feel boomba doing yoga and saying hello just about all day long. It’s a trippy and tickly sensation. She even had hiccups this week.
Friends have begun to give us hand-me-ups–strollers, infant car seats, tiny, tiny, tiny clothes (I can’t even believe how tiny they are) and the little Boomba’s Roomba is starting to fill up quickly–not really with the cute stuff I dream of decorating the room with–but with breast pumps and infant bath tubs and all the weird gadgets and gizmos that babies (I guess) need. At times it is very intimidating. Veteran mommies talk to me of Bugaboos and Stokkes and I quickly realize that I have to learn an entirely new vocabulary. Good thing I have a knack for languages. It’s easy to get caught up in the scariness of birth and not think about what follows–how my life will change once Boomba actually arrives on the scene. In the midst of picking a hospital, signing up for birthing classes, client meetings, blogging, doctors appointments, getting the nursery together…it is easy to go about my days hopping from appointment to appointment without stopping, even for a short while, to just be.
My mother often tells me that “we are Human Beings, not Human Doings” and I will try and hold onto that more in this last leg of my pregnancy. Baths help.
Enough about my fears and anxieties for now. I’m sure things will somehow work themselves out–like they tend to do. . With that I wish all of you Human Beings a weekend of just being. And, if you’re (like me) having trouble just being–try taking a bath.

your mom is a wise woman. i’m going to place those words within as it feels like it pertains to almost everything we do in our lives now a days. i can’t even imagine all the different emotions/thoughts/happenings that you are going through, but have been enlightened/strengthened/encouraged through your sharing. here’s to the last trimester & finally meeting little boomba! can’t wait!

You have everything you need, dear one. Everything else is just hype. Have you seen the documentary, “Babies”? This might put your mind at ease. I’m so excited for your journey to finish line! hugs and kisses…n

Love your recent posts. All I can say is that I was super prepared for giving birth reading all sorts of books and going to all sorts of classes (and making my husband partake in everything as well). My birth experience was not necessarily according to plan but I got through it naturally thanks to all that practice. But funnily, I hadn’t read much beyond how to take care of a newborn so at around 4 months it was like, what do we do now? Nobody tells you to prepare for the rest. And similar to what your mom said, a good friend put it best that “Babies are not books”. Something to keep in mind as you prepare for everything and things don’t go according to plan.

Thank you for this Jessica–I have such wise readers :)

Your mother is so smart, and so are you. Take your time to take baths and just to be. When the lil’ boomba comes, you’ll study each other and find what works for you.

So exciting. Ride with it and enjoy your body. Don’t worry about what’s ahead. I remember my Dr saying ‘the plan is, there is no plan’ as giving birth, your body will do whatever it wants to do. It will all come together, you’re right, it always does. Pruxxx
