Corlie Mortimer is a South African from Cape Town who is now living in the most South Western province of China: Yunnan. When she emailed me to tell me about her project to provide the tiny village of Getu with more mechanical rice threshing machines by selling the gorgeous hand woven scarves that the Miao women from the village wear as headscarves I was intrigued. You know I love projects that combine social action with creative endeavors, especially anything textile-related.
But besides the important cause, the wares that she sells on her site, Red Buffalo Trading are also just really pretty (and affordable). The kinds of things that are just perfect for holiday gifts for girl friends or family. I got one of their batik table-cloths (pictured above) and looks so pretty on the tabletop. Have a look at Corlie’s colorful, adventure-filled blog for more stories from Yunnan and Getu.
