As a kid and teenager I sang a lot: in bands and choirs and musical theater. But somehow as an adult that changed. I sing in the showers, or while stuck in traffic in the car, but that’s about it. But being a mom has brought singing back into my life. Now I sing every night as I put little Ida to sleep–and this brings me so much joy. I love singing to her and with her, and I’m so grateful for the connection that music brings to our relationship and to our family.
For Mothers Day this year I thought it would be fun (and different) to share a lullaby I wrote for Ida last year. It kind of evolved every night as I sang it to her and turned into this. It’s still my favorite thing to sing to her each night. Jason helped me to put this recorded version together and to arrange it. I hope you enjoy this little ninna-nanna.
To all of the mothers, step-mothers, mothers in-law, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and soon-to-be-mothers out there, you guys are doing great, and it ain’t easy, but is is so joyful, right? Sending love and sending strength. Happy Mothers Day.
To my mother, thank you for teaching me the joy of singing and music. I love you so much. To my daughter, thank you for making me a mama, and such a proud one.
