Last week at the Rose Bowl flea market I scored this vintage wicker screen. I’ve been looking for a headboard to keep at the studio for photos and I new this was the perfect one since we’re short on space here and this one is light weight and it folds up for easy storage. As soon as I put it up it made me realize how much I love the look of screens as headboards — they are so great for layering. I love how in the bottom photo, for example, the wallpaper behind the screen is slightly visible — it creates that pattern on pattern vibe that I love. Also, if the screen is large enough — I love how it looks when the screen spans further out and is layered behind the bedside table as well. It feels very regal somehow.

The other good thing about the type of screen you bought is that it works so well if the only good spot for the bed is in front of a window. It keeps people from seeing in and also admits light. And it looks good from outside. You have to remember how things look from the outside….so many people don’t.

My grandma had one of those! I still thinking about it as stylish accessory for a bedroom!
I have a vintage screen that we purchased to use as a headboard, but every time I lay back in bed I’m afraid it’s going to break the delicate pieces of wood! Do you have any experience with this drawback or any suggestions for protecting it? We really love it and would LOVE to keep using it, but I’ve set it aside for the time being until I find a solution. THANK YOU!!

That vintage wicker screen is such a great find! It’s perfect for a headboard, especially in a studio with limited space. The layered look with the wallpaper showing cookie clicker through is really stylish, and I agree that it adds a regal touch to the room. Great choice!
