My post on diversity in design from a couple of weeks back spawned a discussion, not just about racial/ethnic diversity represented in the fashion/design/blogger world, but also about the lack of representation of curvier ladies in said media. Since then (and even prior to that post) numerous readers have sent me emails and left comments requesting/suggesting that I add What I Wore posts as a regular feature on the blog.
With that in mind, today I start a new weekly column called Zany & Zaftig*. As a crazy dresser, a healthy size 14, and A multi-culti chica who doesn’t fit nicely into any box, I hope to add a little flavor and a little bit of zaftig wonder to the blogosphere.
This Week I’m Zany & Zaftig in:
1.o Funnyface by Nars lipstick
2.o Mixed Chicks Leave-in-conditioner (on my hair). I seriously recommend it–keeps locks on lockdown.
3.o A vintage coat I scored at Shareen Vintage. Shareen told me that she had bought this coat originally for Andre Leon Talley. I’m still not sure if she was kidding. She asserted that he and I are probably the only two people in the world who would wear this jacket and so she cut me quite a deal. Stoked.
4.o My clog boots. They come out in October and stay out until June. I’ve had this pair for four years and they still rock my world. They give me the right amount of height, they are SUPER comfy and they go with EVERYTHING. If you still need a winter boot, try No. 6.
Alrightly friends–have an amazing weekend.

Hello!
I recently started reading your blog and was immediately drawn to your color, your art, your sister bond, your size, your hair, everything! This post led me to read your diversity post which is something I think about every single day while looking around fashion or design or lifestyle blogs, especially ones based in LA. I came to a point where reading blogs was giving me the same feeling of looking at magazines or ads: I wasn’t enough. I wasn’t skinny enough, blonde enough, white enough, and didn’t have enough money to buy these insanely expensive clothes or lead the kind of lifestyle these women do. Of course blogs reflect the racist, classist, etc, etc. problems of the real world, but it was kind of shocking to see at first because blogs seemed like an escape from that.
So I re-evaluated what I was looking at and re did my reading list. I didn’t go beyond that though, so I appreciate your action in your new series; it’s inspiring and I can’t wait to see more zany and zaftig!

@Will – THANK YOU! Nice to hear that from one of my guy readers–glad to know you’ll stick around for the style posts, too!
@Sherisa – Thanks – it’s pretty loud, but I love it too!
@ Apol – A wholehearted WELCOME and that you for your kind words!
@Mari – Welcome to you too and that you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment. The ‘I’m not enough’ feeling is rampant and I wanna do what I can to stop it. We are enough and there is no reason that magazines, blogs, or anything else should make us feel otherwise.
Thanks, friends!
