Wedding planning is a trip. So many little details that I overlook when I’m at others’ weddings that all of the sudden become vital when planning my own. I went to a rental warehouse the other day to pick out everything from napkins and chairs to salt and pepper shakers. Each tiny detail seemed almost monumental–isn’t that silly? But I am having fun with all of the plans– it’s a challenge to balance my ‘GREAT VISION’ with my modest budget, but the budget constraints push me to think outside the box, to research more and to practice something that I’m not always so good at: asking for help, discounts and suggesting barters–all things that I am often embaressed by. But as I get deeper into the plans I realize that I with all of these tiny details, I can’t to it all alone–and just as I am often volunteering my services, discounts and barters to others–others are often willing and even happy to extend the same favor to me. It’s sweet, and makes me feel so blessed to be a part of such warm communities–both online and off.
Do you, like me, have trouble asking for help or favors? Or are you the type of person that magically gets everyone involved in your projects? Either way, any words of wisdom?
{The chair above is the chair that I picked for the reception. One of the most economic options–that also happens to be one of the cutest. Yay.}

i SO KNOW what you mean about all the small details that you don’t even think about when a wedding is planned. i have been enjoying your journey though of bringing everything together. :)
as for asking favors/help, oh my, i definitely have a hard time doing that!! slowly i’m learning, but you’re right! most of the time, people are willing if not happy to lend a helping hand, especially for individuals who are genuine about their approach & reasons.
can’t wait to see it all!! <3

I totally am going through the exact same thing. Where is this warehouse? I’m having problems finding inexpensive yet cute chairs for my own reception!

Congrats Shannon! The chairs are from Town and Country Rentals in Van Nuys– the chairs weren’t dirt cheap–but so much better than the regular ol’ ones that can be found all over the place. Good luck and have fun!

The plain wooden chairs I used for my wedding were the cheapest they had to offer–and so much warmer with more personality compared to the white plastic guys! Win/win!

totally!! wood all the way!

My sister was my wedding planner/matron of honor. When it comes to planning things as and I are very anal. I told her my vision and she bright t to fruition. I didn’t just hand her everything and say ” here you go.” I definitely helped. I think I lucked out having someone willing to help. If I didn’t have anyone I probably would have done everything on my own.

My advice is to have a designated person on the day-of to usher people and be a time-keeper to keep things moving on schedule. Even though you are the DIY queen, you don’t want to have to “do” anything on your wedding day, so feel free to boss people around on that day. :-) I’m helping my friend take care of some of the details for her wedding and she needs a cool wedding website template. Any suggestions? She and her fiance are nature-oriented and want a natural and pretty site.

oh ya– im for sure having some day-of helpers!! As for wedding websites template?? i don’t know! I just did my site on blogger and kept it really simple: http://jasonandjustina.blogspot.com/
good luck!!

I’m not sure why, but I was always awkward about asking people for help. For instance, I was terrified of putting too much on my bridesmaids because our wedding was already long distance, and I felt like asking for much beyond the mandatory bridesmaids dress and plane ticket was pushing it. Looking back, I should have asked for help! haha.

I never asked for help from friends ( I just never even thought of it even though I have the most wonderful caring friends, I wanted to take care of myself) But when I was hit with really bad anxiety I needed the support and that’s when I asked friends to come over with food, or stay with me on certain nights, to walk with me around the block, to visit for a weekend, and it was this huge realization for me that had nothing to do with the illness- I could ask for help and it would shine this light on my life that I didn’t know was possible. It’s part duh and part shocking that we have this need to do do do do do to prove something? I don’t know, but I do know that asking for help will save your life! And if your friends love your love then they will love to pitch in : )
