The child-proofing has begun over here! We want to make sure we take the first steps to make this place safe before Ida takes her first steps! Goodbye coffee table, hello room to scoot, crawl and walk! I will be updating you all on an ongoing basis of all the little things we do to make our jungalow a safe and fun place for Ida, while still making sure it remains an inspiring place for me and Jason, too. It won’t be easy–but I do love a challenge! Did you do anything special/clever to make your home more toddler friendly?

I am in love with this rug! Where did you find it?

Thanks! I found it at the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena…it was a vintage find but I believe it’s Mexican.

We are doing the same thing… Challenge at the moment is the bottom shelves; finding things that are not breakable, too precious or able to cause injuries but still look great to put on the reachable shelves of bookcases, side tables etc. Can’t wait to see your ideas!

I have 3 boys, so we’ve not had a coffee table yet for this reason. Even though they’re older now, they need room to stretch out, put games on the floor, that sort of thing. I don’t remember having to do too much to my house as much as not being able to wear necklaces or bracelets for a few years because they were always being tugged on!

Oh my goodness I feel you! We had to completely redo the living room as well just this past month. I feel like we are always having to take more steps to make things safer and easier. What a challenge to keep it baby-friendly and inspiring. It looks great!

I have a 9 month old been looking at some cushiony ottomans for when we get rid of the coffee table!

Hi~ there well we simply incorporated a lot of wood pieces, I found large wooden bowls and stools. The wooden bowls I used for magazines and my daughters books and small toys etc.. and stools are extra seating and a half way destination for the beginner walker. and of course baskets are always great! good luck and enjoy the new adventures with the little one~~~

you bet we changed things when we had 3 little boys all under the age of 5 running around. Any breakables were put far out of reach, which basically meant a box in the garage because the middle one was a climber whom I once found in my top kitchen cabinets before he could walk. We replaced the coffee table with an ottoman too and made sure any electrical cords were behind furniture where they could not be reached by little hands. LOVE your room. Even though the 3 little guys are now 3 big guys, I’d love this for them in our basement. Bright and cheerful and extra sleeping room on the sofa
