Last time I created one of these style concoctions it was Scandibo — a Scandinavian/bohemian style that began to notice after spending six weeks in Copenhagen. Well lately, wandering through isles at the flea markets I find myself pausing for a really long time at the booths with African imports. While I’ve long-time been obsessed with traditional North African design — from Moroccan tile to Berber rugs, handira blankets and traditional Moroccan lighting, recently I find myself mesmerized by African design from the Southern, Western and Eastern regions as well.
Soft indigo fabric from Mali, tiny carved wooden stools from Burkina Faso and Ethiopia, colorful glass and chunky metal beads…and I recently purchased my first Juju hat from Cameroon, and my South African Ndebele Fertility dolls have taken a very prominent spot in my living room. And most of the windows and soft surfaces in my house are currently draped in Indigo from Mali.
You see it right?? these colorful hand-dyed and embroidered textiles mixed with folk art, hand-woven baskets and amazing little stools with six legs?! Throw in some fishhook succulents, a philodendron or two hanging in a macrame masterpiece, maybe a rattan chair and light up your incense…
And what you’ve got is a relaxing, layered, textured, gorgeous Afribo interior! Thoughts?
Items from the above can all be found on my curated favorites page over at Chairish.
I see a few things that my mother in law has in her home in Botswana! We also have a lot of fun treasures that we’ve brought back form visiting family in Bots, South Africa and Cameroon. Love it!!

AFRIBO – I can’t believe how you have described my style to a T!! Thank you! My current favorite thing is pink Mud cloth. I covered a pillow for my pink couch at work. Divine.

Good article, I really enjoyed reading it. I also recently read an essay about mental health in this source https://papersowl.com/examples/mental-health/ and you know, these decor items have a very strong effect on mental health. Nowadays, small things like this are very important, because things that can calm you down are very important. This is very important for me now because I have such a period of time that sometimes I really need to calm down. It looks very good and beautiful, I would like to have a few of my own.
