I think (and hope) that these photos from our magical week in Tahoe kinda speak for themselves, ’cause it’s late and I have to be at the gym at 7AM mañana ;) but a few people asked for details about things to do and see there so I’m gonna do this kinda short hand.
We stayed: At a vacation rental home in the Tahoe keys, on the water. I liked it because it had a jacuzzi, gave us access to a community pool and it was centrally located.
Favorite hike: Cascade falls. Amazing views. Pretty easy (we had kids along and they did great) 1 mile there, and 1 mile back. Sweet waterfall payoff.
Favorite food: We mostly cooked at ‘home’ (Lake Taco night was the bomb). But we did find a great little ‘local’ kinda spot for breakfast called the Keys Cafe. They even had almond milk Lattes :D
Best splurge: An afternoon on the Pontoon. Lake Tahoe, like the actual lake, is absolutuely breathtaking. I have never seen water as blue this IN MY LIFE. It’s worth the splurge to get out into the middle of all that blue.
Favorite beach: Emerald Bay. It’s like you’ve found that secret romantic little beach spot you’ve always dreamed of, and the fact that you have to hike a mile down to it makes it that much more enjoyable.
Favorite cultural bla bla: Vikingsholm ‘Castle’. The tour was cute and there are some AMAZING textiles in there…also really cool to hear about this rich lady environmentalist in the 20’s who had it built.
Favorite sighting: Tie between seeing a super cute baby bear in a tree, and watching my grandfather hog all the s’mores from my grandmother on their 69th anniversary.
Best moment: Jumping off that pontoon into the lake was pretty sweet, and so was watching Ida play with her cousins for a week. I swear her vocab has doubled in the past seven days.
I’m probably forgetting some stuff so if you have questions, please feel free to ask and if you have any spots in Lake Tahoe that you’d like to share please chime in below! I’ll definitely be returning to Tahoe and would love to hear your favorite things to do and see.

Hello Justina! Your trip was awe-inspiring and I have definitely put Tahoe on my list of places I must go to one day. I wanted to ask what type of camera you used to capture these beatiful moments because they are STUNNING xx

Thanks Anne! I mostly use my iphone to take photos, my favorite app for processing is VSCO. Besides that I also have a Canon6D. You can probably tell which of these photos are from the DSLR and which are from the iphone. The ones with more depth perception and in focus/out of focus stuff are from the DSLR.

Looks amazing, fantastic pictures. I especially love the one with your husband and your daughter on his back and your brother-in-law? With the baby on his back! So cute! Also, you are goregeous, simply gorgeous.

Aww thanks Kristi. Ya I love that one too–it’s my brother and nephew with Ida and Jason. And thank you for all of your kind words. Makin’ me blush over here!

Hi Justina! Your trip looks gorgeous. We’re headed to the Sequoias next week for an internet-free backpacking adventure, but I’m pretty bummed to have learned there won’t be much water – all the rivers are practically dry! Damn you, drought!
Anyway – as an San Diegan, may I ask if you guys flew or drove up to Tahoe? I think from here it’s nearly a nine hour drive, which is juuuuust about long enough for this car-sick-inclined chick to say UGHHHH NO THANKS. It’s not even the drive there, it’s the driving home, “oh-great-nine-hours-to-LEAVE-vacation” part. Boo!
Justina Blakeney says
Hey!
Ya. the drive was kinda long. We split up the drive by spending the night at a Hotel in Bishop, CA. We left at night, and drove four hours, stayed at the Creekside inn–nice place and really affordable. Woke up and had breakfast in Bishop, and did the last four hours. it was much easier for Ida (and us) that way. :) have fun!

That does sound a whole lot easier, especially with the little lady love. Thanks for the info :)

Also, I haven’t been following your blog for such a long time but still your body shape has changed a lot. You look really good.
